  1. I’m using an ATI AIW 9700 card and ATI MMC 8.1 software. I can capture video in other programs but not MMC. I upgraded to MMC 8.9 last night but there is no change. All the MMC functions appear to work accept the capture button. This button is grayed out (doesn’t work), even though I can view my incoming video signal in MMC. Any suggestions or did I miss some kind of setting? Thanks.

Uninstall all ATI ... drivers, softare, delete the directories manually, etc

CONTROL PANELS -> SYSTEM -> DEVICES to remove devices/drivers

Use all the new stuff (8.9) if you're patient. I suggest 8.7 because it's most stable. It took me hours and hours to get 8.9 working, and I couldn't have done it without my knowledge of PCs. Not for the newbie.

I had the same problem. Try this it will only take a second. Above the stop button on the left hand side of the control panel is a button looks like a circle with a line or a TV (should be a TV if it's the same problem I had). Click it change it to circle with a line, that's it the record button should be available. Like I said I had the same thing happen to me. Not really sure even what it's for, but it does change the feed from live to whatever connection your using.

I just tested it to make sure and it does grey in or out the record button depending on your selection.

  4. thecoalman, Amazing! It worked. This allowed me to record and I though I had pushed every button there was. Thank you very much.

I may try lordsmurf’s recommendation anyway, as I get an EAZYLOOK failure message on starting any of the MMC programs. The ATI site said to correct this problem by loading MMC 8.9….that’s what caused the problem in the first place.

Now this leads me to another issue. I want to capture the best quality AVI. In the map presets there are a number of choices. If I use the default of “good” or “longer” ATI VCR I get decent capture, better than I ever had with any other capture software. Problem is I don’t know what the .vcr file extension is. I have tried a few others but with worse results. I used a custom setting with HUFFYUV that I read about but this captures in poor quality with the same old horizontal video lines around darker images. I don’t know what I’m supposed to set the HUFFYUV settings to. There is one that is titled AVI Recording but this comes out horribly blurred. Could use a recommendation on a setting to use. Thanks again.

I'm not too familar with the actual capture part yet. I haven't gotten that far because MY ATI CARD WONT CAPTURE WHAT I WANT IT TOO see Here: http://www.coaldelivery.com/ati But I have read a few things and from what I understand the Huffy codec is supposed to be pretty good. If you haven't read it go over to Lordsmurf site. He has step by step instructions on how to capture with a ATI card using the Huffy codec plus tons of other stuff.

There's a utility available on ATI's website that will uninstall all ATI related programs and drivers. During my ongoing quest to get my card to capture properly I've read quite a few nightmares about installing and reinstalling ATI drivers and software. I had to laugh at the one thing "welcome to ATI driver hell"....

Don't install EAZYLOOK next time if it was a problem last time. Do CUSTOM, not TYPICAL install.
