My Philips DVDR880 now pauses after a few seconds into a recording, flashes up a series of numbers and letters on the LED display and then shuts down. This obviously spits out another coaster. Ironically, it plays great! Such is life ...
Any ideas how I can fix this please? Although I've just purchased a new Panasonic E55, I'm reluctant to trash my Philips, as I'd prefer to get it back on its legs and donate it to my local hospice for them to get some usage from. For them every little bit helps.

Do you have an option to reset it back to factory/shhipping condition?
Sometimes this can sort things out. -
