  1. I want to do some of my VHS captures as realtime DivX b/c my PC can handle it. However, I want to be able to crop out the edge noise from the VHS source so I don't have to rencode later (I view the movies on my PC, so overscan is a no-no!). I normally use VirtualVCR to capture. VirtualDUb does'nt work with my card with the Drivers I have, and the BTWincap drivers screw up the color levels for capturing and has trouble with my Tuner. Any suggestions for capture apps or settings? Whenever I use the crop prefilter in VVCR, the program locks up. If I crop using the DivX codec properties, the video gets messed up and offset. Any help would be greatlt appreciated.

An ATI AIW card with ATI MMC can do it. It has a "Record cropped" feature that works quite well.

  4. I use a WDM Conexant 878A based card, so I'm sorta out of ythe Ati MMC league! I can do post processing but hey... sometimes we want it done all at once if we have the muscle to do so.

  5. Virtualdub can crop on-the-fly captures. Does the wrapper.zip work for your card?

I crop on the fly with virtualvcr all the time. It's under filter: "Video Crop Filter."
