  1. I recently upgraded my pc and installed MMC 8.9. Now when i record i can hear a hissing noise in my recordings. What is the best way to adjust my settings? Also my new motherboard has onboard audio, will it be better to use that than my creative pci sound card? i record at 44.1 khz at 296kbit.
    Any ideas?

  2. Hissing may have many causes, they are usually hardware related with some of them being more difficult to find and fix. The most obvious causes that comes to my mind:
    a) ground loop
    b) inductive or capacitive noise pickup
    c) component noise
    d) dirty power
    e) software problem

I'd disable the onboard audio first; if that doesn't help, I'd check for ground loop.

  3. after posting this i noticed that if i it isnt so much of a hiss as a faint high pitched whine. could moving the card from where it is 3rd slot down to the 5th slot (o move it away from the NIC, the slots are next to each other)

  4. i have been fooling around wih the audio levels and can get it where the audio is good but can still hear the whine in the background. What are the best audio settings and/or audio programs to set the settings to use? Thanks for any help.

  5. i think i got it fixed. After i upgraded and reinstalled, Windows loaded the drivers for the card automatically, i didnt think about it. Then i thought about it and installed the drivers i had backed up on cd. Then adjusted the settings in the Creative PCI Audio Mixer and the hiss/whine is just barely noticeable during a quiet scene. And the sound is better also. Thanks for the help guys.

  6. If you capture from your vcr make sure that your cable/ant line in is unplugged. The reason you migt have hum is probably due to different grounds. One from the AC line in your PC and the other from cable tv.
