  1. I played a burnd DVD in my Sony DVPN 665 and all of a sudden it completely stopped working. I spoke with Sony customer service and they said that they've been getting calls about burnd dvds killing their players and they will not honor the warranty. This is the ONLY time that I've ever even heard of this. Has this happened to anyone else on their Sony or any other player?

  2. I don't see how "reading" or trying to read a disk would kill a player. Seems it would just play or not play.

My old pioneer and samsung would just spit the disks out. The Sony I use now (DVP-NS725P), doesn't spit them out, it just sits there and does nothing. However, no damage to the player.

Like you, I've never heard of this.
If it works, don't fix it.

  3. I don't mean it doesn't play DVD+-R/RW media at all. I was just talking about dirty or mis-authored disks. Plays almost everything else.
If it works, don't fix it.

    Very very strange.

Doesn't really surprise me though. Sony were one of the first manufacturers of Hi-Fi systems that wouldn't play burnt CDs while just about every other manufacturer's products could - something to do with Sony Records/Music Management I think ? Because of this, it wouldn't surprise me if they have something in their DVD players that fooks up when you put in burnt discs (DVD or CD).

They probably won't honour the warranty because they do not state that the player will play DVDR. Your bad for not reading the instructions.
    If in doubt, Google it.
