I've been attempting to encode video files with both TMPGEnc and Virtualdub and I keep getting random blocks of red blue and green showing up in the black areas of the video. Does anybody know what causes this and how I can fix it?

more info please.
what is your source?
when do you see these blocks? preview? during encoding? on your computer? in your DVD player?
etc. -
I'm mainly encoding from two sources. I have either high quality DivX files that I want to encode to MPEG-1 files to put on a VCD or large MPEG-1 files (~6Mb/s) that I captured with my ATI TV Wonder card that I'd like to reduce to put on a VCD. When I attempt to conver either one in TMPGEnc or Virtualdub, I notice the dots in the preview pane during encoding, and sure enough, when I play the newly encoded file later, they're all through the picture. I haven't tried making a VCD of the files, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they'd show up there, too.
