  1. I have a bunch of audio files in AAC that I want to transfer to my sony minidisc player, but none of the software I use recognises AAC, only mp3 wma, wav and ogg (probably a handful of others as well). Are there any tool that will convert these AAC audio files to mp3?
I use the m3u2sBurner method to transfer mp3's to the minidisc player since sony is picky about mp3's...sort of a hack i guess.

    Search Comp PM
    iTunes can do this.

go to Edit -> Preferences -> Importing Tab

to the right of "Import Using", use the drop down menu to select "MP3 Encoder". Then select the bitrate you want underneath that menu.

Now go to your music library, right click on any song and a selection should be there that says "Conver Selection to MP3"

    hope that helped.

  3. if you want them converted to mp3 so you can then upload them to your minidisc - don't bother. if you do this you'll be compressing your file another time, which will reduce quality even more.. from AAC to MP3 to ATRAC3 (the minidisc format)

convert your AAC to WAV, and convert the WAV to ATRAC3.
