I just got a TDK indiDVD 420n burner. I bought a 5-pack blank dvd disc i'm using are Imation, DVD+R 4x. But when i put the disc in, I selected the burner in "My computer", and it says "Used: 0 bytes" and "Free: 648". I tried all 5 disc in the burner, and each one says the same thing. Is there somesort of upgrade i need for the hardware? Or should i try to return the disc and get a different brand? Or is it something else?

    Hi,

You dont say what burning software it is, but mine came with NERO and I had the same problem that my writer only recognised the DVDR as 650 MB, until I went to the wizrd and selected DVD options. Then it saw the full capacity.

Not all writing software can see a DVDR as a DVDR. WINONCD 5 for example can only see CDR capacities, but I didnt really expect it too.

Windows does nto recognise DVDR as 4.38 capacity. So I dont use that feature at all.

    Hope this helps.

When opening Nero Express, it asks you what you want to do.

Above the projects you can select, your writer is shown. In that list your writer can be listed as CDRW device, which lists only projects that would fit a CDR.

But if you select the device as being DVDR then you have the DVD options.

I know this because I could not understand this at forst when I forst got my writer.

When I set it as a DVD burner on Nero Express, does it count the disc at a dvd disc on the other programs?
