Cornfucia says, the all knowing best answer to the format war is simple... The Best format to use, is the one.....
That.....
Is the cheapest(Best bang for a dolla) when you go to by blanks..... -
Well, medievil, I guess that all depends on whether or not you actually care if your data can be read six months from now...
I'd be willing to bet that kind of thinking is a big reason why so many people end up having problems like Jumbo_Holden's. "Who cares if it's some fly-by-night brand made in a Chinese sweatshop, it's on sale!"
Me, I've been burning DVD-R's for close to two years now. I've burned at almost 200 discs in that time, both -R and -RW. And guess what, Jumbo? The handful of coasters I've ever produced have been due to either operator error (attempting a new authoring procedure that involves monkeying around with IFOedit, for example), or system configuration issues.
But then, I paid the premium for an actual Pioneer drive, and I stick to reputable brands of media like TDK and Taiyo Yuden. If that means I have to trim a few Starbucks' lattes out of my monthly budget... so be it. -
Jumbo_holden, nice tv you got there, + only he? Your high technical skills has convinced me that if a tech-guru as YOU have problem with -R then it MUST be bad. I will buy a +R tv set also and make a big fire with -R's in front of the parliament to demonstrate how insane it is that we are not using + only. -R is for commies and nazis, hope NATO will invade someone if this -R madness doesnt stop very soon.
Can't wait till blue ray recording comes out.[/code]

I've been using the Pioneer DVR-104 since day one. The "-R" format has NEVER given me a single failure once properly set-up. I sure the "+R" works nearly as well. I find that quality of media varies quite a lot, but I would look more to the combination of the media vs. burner compatibility. I assure you it has nothing to do with the "-R" format.

Actually, if I had to guess, Jumbo probably posted immediately upon his return from the pub.
:P
Pull! Bang! Darn! -
c'mon now dont discriminate, somebody might get o fended.
i have btc 1008, writes -r perfectly fine to answer somebodys comment earlier about btc.
i use nothing but mxlrg02, and will never use anything else. -
I got tired of the whole +R, -R debate...I couldn't decide, it was all so confusing, there stood I staring blankly at the wise Staples employee, who tired to explain it to me...I remember thinking "I are sertanly not that shmart to figer it out"...so I just said to hell with it, I use my burner tray as a cup holder and I output all of my video on 1.44 MB floppy discs.
I just did "Jumbo Retarded Part 2" (It's the sequal to Naked Retards gone wild). It is 4.32 GB DVD...on a 3000 floppy disc set.
Incase you are wondering the 90 minute DVD is 1.8 seconds of video per disc.
So as to not HI-Jack to the topic.....I only burn DVD-R...I've burned well over 1000 discs with zero coasters. Maybe the format is trash or maybe.....

I bet Jumbo_Holden's using the wrong type of dvdr,i use dash r and he`s using minus r and that makes a hugh difference.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
He's using DVDR- discs when he should be using DVD-R discs. Format incompatibility, what a bitch.
-
Ritek G04 DVD-R never a coaster, never a problem.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing-- -
I don't care what anyone says! The dvd+/- tgpo format is the bomb! That's my story and I'm sticking 2it!

He did state he burned some -r dvd`s that did work and mentioned his burner was dual.

I just bought 100 - blanks, 30 worked perfectly, 2 coasters due to my believing there was something better than shrink or decrypter. Since the offending program hasn't been mentioned on this site, I'm not going to bad mouth it, and just consider it my bad luck to have found it. Blast you download.com, blast you...

Just got my 2 stars from the "My favorite media" thread. Ask Mod BT_M
Man, 2 stars in 1 thread.
I really want to behave now.
Yet judging by the number of sneaky and cheap shots Jumbo_Holden receives so far, who can resist to jap in here!
My Fat Boy is better than your little man. 8)
Jumbo_Holden, you will just have to forgive all these snipers. They are the experts at what they do; look at their post counts, now you know why they are so high. It is not like they are the Mods here to help the newbies, yet the amount of time they spend here is ridiculous.
Get a life, sons.

Officially a two star Admiral.
You are in breach of the forum rules and are being BANNED. "resist to jap in here!" is yet another example of your
rabid xenophobia. Congratulations, you have been officially promoted to
a five star arsehole. Bon Voyage!

I think I might know why he's on about a TV being +R only:
I don't know what the difference is between the formats, but as for one format being better than the other, I use both and I'm yet to burn a coaster. I'm using a Pioneer DVR-106. Frankly, I could give a damn what I use as long as it works, and keeps working.
