  1. I have a few AAC files that show up as blank document icons. They won't open in iTunes, and only open in VLC. Is there any way to convert them to MP3s or something? Thanks

Play them in VLC again, but this time, while one plays,
go to the Window-->Messages command and copy the information
listed in the pop up there as it plays the track. Post it back here,
so that we can figure out what is going on.

hahahahahahaha .... if you have no luck taking the spaces and characters out id say blame the person who encoded them!

So iTunes doesn't allow spaces, hyphens and underscores eh? Who's talking nonsense now?

no i was talking in reference for him/her to get info on the file.
he/she was getting errors when attempting to acces the files type etc with VLC.

of coarse everyone knows iTunes has no problems with spaces

As far as I can see the poster was unable to play his song in iTunes, but was able to play it in VLC.

Regarding those 'errors', in my experience you get those no matter what type of file you are playing in VLC. That's the way VLC finds the appropriate decoder (by trying them all).

so it is not a AAC ( mp4)
nor is it au ( generic audio), .wav, .asf, or .avi....

i got these files from an FTP.
From what I gather, it was a an HE AAC file, probably encoded by
someone not properly using WinAmp to encode the file.
    http://www.audiocoding.com/
Currently, only VLC 0.71a handles these types of files, as the HE spec
hasn't been assimilated into QT yet.....

What..? Don't blame me because I happen to "get out" more....
