  1. I have had this burner for a few months and have lived with the occasional coaster, no big deal. Lately, it seems every other disc bites the big one, with no apparent reason. I have not changed media (have been using Memorex 4X DVD+R), and my firmware is at A301. I have used a variety of software in an attempt to find the problem, but whatever I use is equally subject to failure. I have tried Nero 6, CloneDVD, Roxio 6, and Burnatonce. What could be the problem? Could it just be a K.I.A. drive and I have to replace it, or will some type of tweak, reinstall, or driver update help me out. Any thoughts?

    Memorex 4X DVD+R
    A301
    Roxio 6

Read the Manual LG recommends media to use, Memorex is not one of them, update your firmware to A302 ,try Maxell's DVD-R, more compatable, better media.

I´m running on an LG 4040b too, and my FW is the A302. I´ve had nothing but perfect results with RitekG03/04 discs.

Dump those crappy CMC Memorex-frisbees and join the Ritek-bandwagon

They work everytime on this burner

I believe there are at least two types of Memorex DVD-R`s...CMC and Ricoh...the CMC is mostly stated as being pretty crappy, while Ricoh is supposedly the better of these two. Maybe gschilling should check what his discs are...

  6. My LG doesn't like Memorex either. The ones I've burnt are CMC and they are all coasters!.
Perfect results have been achieved with RitekG04, TY and MCC. No coasters from those discs
Ricohjpn are ok if sold by TDK. I've tried ricohjpn sold by other brands and the success rate is 70-80%

    Same burner....original OLD A300 firmware....burns Ritek's, BenQ's, Verbatim's and even Princo's flawlessly.

I'd buy another 4040B in a heartbeat. What I WON'T do is buy anything made by Memorsux.

I have same drive and have similiar problems as yours, a week ago the DVD function finally died, no longer read or write DVD, CD is ok and the worst came within the next 24 hours, the drive ceased to function, the tray won't open, ie after pressing botton, the light flashes for a while but it won't open, I called LG and they replaced it with a retail box 4081 under warrenty last friday.

Call them to see what they say.
