  2. See on the left where it says "DVD Players"?

    Look there.

Sony players only work with certain CDRs.

  3. i have the same player, it does not work with CDR, but i got the gigastorage to work (at future shop, $9.99 CDN). This player has terrible support for CDR, even if the burnt cd's do work they take a long time to load. CDRW works fine though. Ive had it with this player, im gonna switch to a pioneer that does everything

Yeah, Sony DVDs don't do well with CDRs or CDRWs. I have a Sony DVP 850 and it won't work with any CDR at all. However, after fishing around for a while I found that Memorex CDRWs burned at 4x speed on my Dell (NEC CDRW drive) work -- buy a five pack of those and see if they work for you!

  5. LOL...that was my first DVD player! Spent alot of money on this one.

    Here's a repost I submitted:

My many MANY experiments in burning VCD movies (from a Canadian perspective) yielded these conclusions for the Sony DVP-S360...

What brands DID worked for me:

    1) Acer Multi-Speed 74 Min. (Silver Top)

    2) Gigastorage CD-Rs:
    -Gigastorage 80 Min. (Purple lettering)
    -Cursor 80 Min. (Silver-Top)
-Cursor Colorful 80 Min (Multi-colored Top) works but there's a 20% chance for errors.

    3) Memorex (I bought two Spindles at different times, one worked and the other didn't...go figure!)

    4) Almost all CD-RWs

    (None worked for SVCDs)

    ------------------------------------------------------

What brands did NOT work for me:

    BASF
    DataWare
    HP
    Kodak
    Maxell
    Memorex Black
    Ricoh
    Samsung
    Sony
    Verbatim
    Zenith

  6. Try to use CD-RW. Earlier posts have talked about the reflective properties of these disks, and their similarity to the DVD. I have used Imation CDRW discs that I bought 2 weeks ago, and I was able to get it to work. Interesting observation is that when the player gets hot, my VCDs seems to stop working, and a power off for about 15 minutes will let it start playing again. I have the DVP-S360 also.

Sony DVD players are not the only sony product that has trouble playing VCD's

In a test as my local CompUSA store I tried playing a VCD made on a "Mr. Data" CD-R from Circuit City.

It has no trouble being autostart from HP and Compaq (provided that the DVD program is started befor puting the VCR into the DVD drive) computers.

But, when I tried a SONY computer it did not do anything. Yet the content of the VCD was "seen" in MY Computer.

This, of course, maybe a software problem since Sony does not use the same DVD player application as HP and Compaq.

BTW I also tried it in a SONY DVD player (sorry forgot the model number, but, it was one of the lower end units) at Sears and it worked with no problem.

    What does all this prove?

That when it comes to playing VCD its a "crap shoot"
