Hopefully in the right forum. If not Mods Please Move
One or more of the codecs in my system is causing the windows explorer to crash after a period of usage.
Basically the desktop crashes (XP Pro).
It happens after copy/move from one drive to another or delete. Not the first time but as I do this repeatedly, sooner or later the crash will happen, the computer will appear to freeze when opening a drive letter, But a DVD burn keeps going with no problems, Ctrl/alt/delete task manager close the frozen drive letter, desktop crashes and reloads and works for a while til I delete etc.
If I don't do the copy/move/delete it'll run all day with no problems. I know it is about to happen when opening a drive letter and Zonealarm asks in I want to let windows explorer access the internet.
Scanned for viruses, spyware and am clean. Norton Av, Adaware, Spybot S & D and a third spyware catcher plus things like CWShredder and HiJack This.
I'm pretty sure it's a codec problem since I did it to another machine when I was adding codecs to do video work on it too.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Roger

I foolishly used the gordian-knot codec pack ~(before i knew that the packs are best avoided!)
uninstalling ffdshow does not seem to make a difference
Thanks in advance
