  1. I'm new at this... so please forgive me in advance if I sound stupid.

I've downloaded some vcd's from news groups and unrared them. When finished I'm left with a cue and bin file. Now I've burned many cue and bins using CDRWin .. my current version is 3.8F. The problem is this: Once I burn the file and try and play it it shows as a .cda both on my pc dvd player and on my apex dvd player. I've played vcd's on both these players (usually burned from either nero or ez cd creator) before with no problem. Also could someone please explain just what exactly these PAR files are? And how I extract and what i need to do with them?

    Thanks In Advance.

  2. Suggestion: Don't openly admit that you're getting the files from news groups. We frown on piracy around here.

As for the PAR files: I'd like to know, too.

  3. Firstly, please try the search facility (top of the page) before posting.

I take it you mean RAR files? This is just a form of compression (like zip) but better than zip in many ways. You need WinRAR to decompress them.

As for your problems with burning the CUE/BIN image this is probably because you used a pirate serial number or a cracked version of CDRWin... CDRWin will deviously burn coasters if you try to crack it.

Just use an uncracked demo to burn to see if you get a good disc (if so, there's your problem).

If you want a freeware alternative to burning CUE/BIN images, you should try CDRDAO. This is open source and there is a Win32 build. There is a pretty good GUI for it called "XDuplicator". Search with Google and you'll find it for download.

For more info on how to burn CUE/BIN images properly: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd/burning_cuebin_images.html
