    Hey All---
I am trying to make a dvd using Vegas Video for the first time, and I really don't seem to know what I am doing. If anybody can point me to some tutorials or has some time to help me out please respond. Thanks!

  2. I guess my first question is: What are you trying to do with it?
I use it for editing, effects, titles and so forth, but not for capturing. For that I use other software and import the AVI (compressed with Huffy) into Vegas 4.
After I edit I save out a new AVI and then use Mainconcept to convert to Mpeg2. From there I use DVD Movie Factory2 tocreate a DVD and basic menus.
Obviously you can use Vegas to do all of this, but this method works for me.

  4. Yor question is a little ambiguous - do you mean that you are using Vegas Video AND DVD Architect, or just Vegas Video on its own? On its own, Vegas is not really a DVD authoring tool - it's more of an asset-preparation tool, as Des rightly pointed out.

    Please give us more detail.

In the meantime, though, here's some tutorials to get you started:

Thanks for the responses, and I will check out the links. Sorry for being a bit vague intially. Basically what would be best is a tutorial guiding me through the various steps of creating a video project. (The only tutorial I found on this site was for creating advanced menus by Crazypants) I have video already transferred using TMPGNC (this I am pretty sure is correct, using the project wizard, I selected DVD-->NTSC-->CBR Mpeg 1 layer 2 Audio (MP2). I have about 9 clips which I want to put onto dvd. At this point I am a little confused. I initially tried to use DVD Architect 1.0, but was stuck rather shortly as I was able to create the initial menu page, but nothing else. From there I went over to Vegas 4.0, imported 1 clip into the project, but again this was about the extent of my success. I got this program from a buddy of mine who never really used it himself (so he's no help!), I have experience using TMPGNC dvd author and Sony's Click to DVD, but this program I am stuck on. Like I said thanks for the replies and I will check out the links, please write back if you have any further insights!

  6. Try Dvd Movie Factory (version 2 can be bought at CompUsa for $19.99). You can import the 9 clips into a movie project. They will be displayed in a Menu (Like a Chapter Menu) when you play back the DVD for individual selection or you can just let them play through (have to set that in the pre-set for the movie though). Might be the simplest way.

In Vegas you can either edit all the clips together by joining them in one track or (better method) you can bring each one into it's own video track but move them on the timeline to when the previous one ends.

Both methods are good. First one is a lot simpler. 2nd one allows you to set up transitions, etc.

Ya' know we didn't have these problems before computers...

Ryan - for DVD you'll want Mpeg 2 for the video...if you still have the AVI files, you'll want to use those and convert them to mpeg 2 either in tmpgenc or if movie factory comes w/ an encoding license you could do it there...mpeg1 won't be that great for DVD (or if you already have that and a re-writable DVD, you could burn a test of your project w/ mpeg1 and see how it looks

Thanks for the help everyone. Right now I don't have a lot of time to play with Vegas Video, but I did get a copy of DVDMovie Factory and that has worked great (much simpler steps, but more advanced than TMPGEnc DVD Author)
