  1. Is there software that will convert a regular DVD placed in your DVD ROM drive and convert the whole DVD to MPEG4 with Dolby Digital 5.1??

#1 DVD Ripper looks cool but it looks like it does not include Dolby 5.1 in the rip....only 2 channel.. http://www.dvdtox.com/dvd_ripper.htm

Isn't that the idea of a forum; to post questions that you don't really know anything about and to have people who have used the software respond to?

There's a difference between asking for help about something you genuinely don't understand and choosing not to even try to find the answer yourself. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine I guess.

A good question is "Should I downsample my 5.1 Audio to 2.0 to save space if I'm shooting for a 2 CDR DivX".

A bad question starts with "What is the Best...". There is no best, it varies with your IQ, computer horsepower, learning ability, and skillset.

For me, I'd use VDUBMOD, DVDDecryptor and AVI MUX to make a DVD into an MPEG4 with AC5.1 Audio. The other tools work just fine, but I don't need up front GUI's to do it all for me. Some are 'better' than others, in that you need to know practically nothing in order to use them.
