  1. I just received my weekly OD flyer and they are now having a sale for a buy 1 get 1 free 15 pack spindle of Verbatim media. I've never had a problem with these so i'm going to get a couple spindles. Just a heads up.

    LOL@NOKI.
I was gonna ask the same thing. Not so great a deal if one pack costs $500.00 LOL

Speaking of ... Verbatim for some reason think that their shot dont stink as i have seen numerous sites with verbatim and their asking price is thru the frign roof!!! I cant believe what they are asking.

  4. sorry folks for not supplying all the details. The deal is for "both" + and the - format & the price is $29.97 for 30 Verbatims. It also appears these are the 4x disks, at least the +R's are.

So pretty much a buck per disc. I guess its an ok deal for those that love verbatim and need some in a walk in type store. wish i could get some printables in a walk in store that is around a buck per disc. memorex are the only game ion town and at $140.00 + or - for 100 thats not so good when amazon has em for 99.99.

The verbatims Ive seen are astronomical in price, so I guess these are decent enough for u verbatim lovers.

Last week Office Depot was selling Maxell 4X for $29 for 30 (tax included), Best buy selling TDK 4X for $24 something + tax. Along with Verbatim, all good stuff for $1 a disc. Don't have to go back too far back for the days of $3, $4, $5 a disc.

Not really any reason to mess with no-name crap anymore. Sooner than later the printables will come down too. Wonder when we will hit the half-buck wall.

  7. I went to my local Office Depot and both the DVD+R and DVD-R disk spindles are "Made in Taiwan". Both of them are 4X speed rated. I have heard people saying to stay away from Taiwan manufactured disks. So has anyone used these disks before and how reliable are they?

BTW Best Buy also has the really cool looking Movie Reel style Verbatim 4X DVD-R 25 pack for $27.99. However these are also "Made in Taiwan".

I assume that there is not a comp usa there? They have been consistantlly running memorex + and - as well as rw+ for about a buck a disk.

Im thinking with the Movie Reel verbatims that the packaging was just made in taiwan. I have 5 3-packs of the verbatim movie reels, and even though their packaging says made in taiwan, theyre media code is MCC 01RG20. They burn great at 8x in my nec 2500, and they look really cool too. Im gonna pick a spindle.

And about the ones you saw at office depot, did they say datalifeplus(which means theyre either MCC or TY) or just datalife(taiwan)?

The 15 disk spindles only said DataLife for the DVD-R disks. I will scan them using DVDInfoPro and let you know the media code on these.

  11. Verbs have been reformulated but if they work on your writer, fine. I know you can get much better media deals online. Make sure they work with your writer by reading media topics on left column.

btw, I use 2x Accus on my Sony they are about $60/100, even 4x Accus are around $72/100 online.

Ripit, actually there are several CompUsa's in town and in fact I purchased a couple 25 packs of Memorex +RW for $19.95 per pack. A great deal I thought until I had numerous failed burns. Finally gave away the unopened pack in frustration. I was not a big Memorex fan before the experience and now wouldn't touch Memorex for a dime a disc.

Actually DatalifePlus, which are MCC are also made in Taiwan now. And these have the MCC code. MCC discs are made in Taiwan, India, Singapore and Japan. In India they are made by MBI, in Japan by MCC itself and Taiwan i believe its also MCC, but I may be wrong.

In fact most of the MCC discs shipping out now (read Verbatims) are out of Taiwan. They are still excellent discs and no reason to doubt them otherwise.

All my datalife plus discs by Verbatim (DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW) are made in Taiwan, all have MCC code, and all work fantastic.

    Cheers.

Oh, to live in the big city, I live where it is 222 miles to the nearest Office Depot and Best Buy, and two states over for the nearest Curcit City and Comp USA, I do love those Sunday drives. Not to complain to loud we do have an Office Max and a Staples, so we are running in the big time!

  17. I just received my order for the DVD+R. Although the website said DataLifePlus, I received a spindle of DataLife made in Taiwan. The media code says MCC.....002.

On a side note, I thought the media code is used determined the write strategy for the burner. But then, if the DVD+R's are made in 4 different countries, how can they control the process such that all the DVD+R's from the various countries are the same? Am I missing something
