Hi, I have a small problem. I have dl some AVI's and also some SVCD's so that I can convert them. But some of them seem to "jump" every now and then as if they are missing a frame each time. Every thing else is fine, nice sharp picture and good audio. What is causing this and how can I cure it? GSpot says I have all the right codecs for each file.

  2. I just started trying to investigate and understand possible causes for this. In a recent thread about a similar problem Lordsmurf remarked that it sounded like an interlace/deinterlace issue. Search "jumpy avi" and you'll find it. Or maybe it was "jerky avi".

I solved my problem by simply running the file through VirtualDub in full processing mode after editing, and recompressing with different codecs. No idea -yet- why it smoothed everything out. VDub did complain about corrupt header when the file was first loaded and proceeded to rebuild it. You might try a short clip and see. That is, unless and until you get a more informed response. BTW, the very first thing to do is scan for errors. VirtualDub-MPEG2 was the version.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

right I just dl another AVI and the same thing, I'd say it is every 30 seconds or so and it looks like it is pausing for half a second. I am scanning for errors with the video in full processing mode. but I dont think it will show anything. Could you give me any pointers for procedures in Virtual Dub as I'm a bit of a novice.
