  1. I know there is a similar topic here, but it's a different network setup...

Here's what I'm trying to do: My computer has two LAN cards, and I have two routers, one SMC wired and one D-Link wireless. I want the cable modem hooked up to the SMC which is connected to 3 PCs thru LAN, but I also want the wireless computers to have internet. So, can I hook up the DLink to the second LAN port and share internet there?
    Network bridge? ICS?
I need to know what IPs to give the routers and should my PC plug in to WAN port or LAN port on the DLink?
What should the setting be on LAN PCs, and WLAN PCs, respectively?

Thanks in advance for any help... I know it's a lot of info I'm asking for..

Is the DLink soley wireless? Is it a WAP or a real router? Does it have extra LAN ports on the back, so you can use it as a switch (my Linksys does, that's why I ask)? If so, here's what I would do (and you don't need the 2nd NIC in your computer):

Configure the SMC as a router, and give it an internal IP of 192.168.0.1. Plug your cable modem into its uplink port and set it up for DHCP or static IP (which your cable provider gives you).

Plug whatever wired computers you want into it.

Configure the DLink as a switch, NOT a router (again, I assume it can be done because my Linksys lets me do that too), and plug the DLink's LAN port/Uplink port into any remaining port on the SMC.

From there, every computer on your network gets a static (or you could use DHCP) IP of 192.168.0.*, a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and each one's gateway becomes 192.168.0.1. Also, (here comes another "because my Linksys allows it" DNS servers for each computer should be 192.168.0.1 since your SMC will have its own DNS info included in its TCP/IP info.

I think thats all I need to say? Make sense?

  3. Yeah, the Dlink has LAN and WLAN. Real router. Ok thanks I'll try that.

"Configure the SMC as a router, and give it an internal IP of 192.168.0.1. Plug your cable modem into its uplink port and set it up for DHCP or static IP (which your cable provider gives you)."

I think you mean the WAN port?

Sure. The port that is separated from the others; on my Linksys it's labeled "Internet" but on some it's uplink, and I guess others it's WAN.

Many routers have WAN for modem, and Uplink for a second router.

    ---

It turns out my D-Link is defective, I got an RMA. In a great coincidece, my SMC is also defective and I got an RMA for that, too. But, I think I'll just send the DLink in and get a new router, because the SMC was only wired.

    Thanks for your help.
