That is the error message with a few files I have tried to restore which doesn't work. I have cleaned the disk selected the particular file I want to restore but it won't decompress. Tried it both ways gone to the file itself clicked twice it starts to download then gives up after a few minutes. Is there anything I can do to retrieve the file.

I have file sburned with nero onto dvd but am unable to copy them to the hard drive as I get a message "cyclic redundancy how do I overcome that problem. What can I do to get those files back? Can anyone help. Thanks

Sounds like the DVD-ROM is having trouble, not the media.

I believe it to be media related because I have received the cyclic redundancy error on more than a few occasions. Each time it was because I chose to be thrifty and use cheap media.

I am at present doing the whole folder of 3GB (it's very slow) so far it is decompressing done 10% so far but I haven't got my hopes up too high, if it works I will let you know if not you won't hear from me.

I suspect that it will fail. The good thing is that only a fraction of files are probably corrupted. It's best to copy only a few at a time so you can narrow down the damaged ones and move on to others that are not. Good luck.

Just to let you know it did fail after starting to decompress. Tried them one by one and the same result. So I really don't what next to do. I've tried everything I can think of even copying the DVD to hard disk, hoping that I could then restore it from there, but that didn't work either. . Oh well live and learn I guess.

My CRE's were always from a dirty DVD-ROM ... see, it was commercial discs and high-dollar media in my case, so I knew the media was not at fault.

A few alcohol swipes later, I was back in business.

I've tried giving them a wipe and still no good. I have copies dvd's too and with those the reply is cyclic redundancy. That's technology for you. This wouldn't have happened with a floppy point taken that it doesn't hold near as much. Thanks you all for your input anyway. If I somehow find away I will share it with you.

I have started to have problems clicking twice on individual files. Response: unable to decompress or Not Responding then my system shuts down. It's actually photos I am trying to open using nero the suffix is .jpg.nco. Do I need some sort of decompressor? If so which? Is the nero wizard supposed to be able to allow one to select individual files. I tried a full restore to no avail either. I am at a dead loss. Any fresh ideas cos these pics mean alot to me. Memories u can't replace
