Just got the hang of this and thought I would share some learning points which might save somebody some time. I like this technique because you can rip straight from DVD to the final file in a single step, which eliminates hassle and means you do not need lots of space on your hard drive - and the end result is very good.
Firstly I used this guide https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=525 which is good start point. As well as DVDx you also need the Xvid codec: I got Koepi's version 1.0 RC3.
1. Make sure in the Output Settings you specify "Volume don't exceed" to Infinite. If you don't you will get an error message along the lines of "Size Splitting does not work..... blah blah"
2. In Output Settings you click Pass 1 Settings. And lo and behold the box that comes up looks nothing like in the guide. This stumped me for ages. Solution: I uninstalled all my codec packs (including Xvid, divx, the Nimo bundle and others) using "add/remove programs" in control panel. Reinstall the Xvid codec and all is fine - you can continue following the guide. Now I am going to graually reintroduce other codecs to see which one had "taken control" of the xvid codec.
3. Finally Windows Media Player 8.0 did not recognise the output, but an upgrade to 9.0 fixed that.
Anybody else got any tips on this technique / settings advice ?
