This problem has ocurred twice. Both times when copying from S-VHS tape/VCR.
I put an empty DVD-RAM in the E50, started the S-VHS VCR in playback mode, and started recording in SP mode. The material on the tape were 4:3 format.
When the recording was done, I took the DVD-RAM disc to my PC for editing with TMPG DVD Author. And that's when the problems started. When I tried to import the recording into this program, an error message appeared, saying something like "all material in a recording must have the same resolution, compression, picture format (4:3 - 16:9)...".
Well, since I know that the source material was all in the same format, this error message was kinda strange. It looks like the E50 has screwed up something during the recording process. I have tried to rename the VR_MOVIE file to .vob, demux and import the m2v file into TMPG, and then I can see that some areas in the movie file has 352*352 resolution (half of the picture is black). If I play the m2v file in Windows Media Player, it looks fine all the way.
I tried several times to record the same source material again, but the same problem ocurred. In one last effort, I switched to XP mode, and this time it worked. The problem is that I cannot use XP mode for movies, because they need too much space on the disc (2 discs for 1 movie).
What could be the cause of this problem?
This also means that some of my S-VHS movies cannot be copied to DVD for future storage/use.
PS! The S-VHS recordings that I tried to copy, was made by myself, and have no copy protection of any kind. My VCR is connected via the AV4 S-video connector on the back of the E50.
