  1. Hi,

I used one of the method suggested as follows to convert the avi file to vcd

    1. I use VirtualDub to extract the sound to a wav file
    2. I then use TMPGEnc to convert the avi & wav to VCD
    3. When I play the files on my computer or vcd player, some of the video quality goes blank at times but the sound continues to play

This does not happen when I play the avi file. Is there anything wrong with the conversion process?

  3. Conversion seems fine - have you checked for bad frames using vdub ?

    Edit : Snap -

  4. Hi,

May I know how do I do that in VirtualDub?

The avi is perfectly OK in terms of sound & video quality.

  5. Open the movie in vdub. Video > scan for errors. If it reports back bad frames you'll have to cut them out. There are guides on the left that explain how to do this.

Download Virtualdub and Virtualdub MP3 freeze from the tools section of this page. Open MP3 freeze and load the avi and then under the video tab at the top select check video for freezes then open Virtualdub and under video select scan video stream for errors.

If there is a freeze or any bad frames these will need to be deleted before you can encode to vcd or svcd.

  7. I've tried but it says (0 frames bad, 0 frames good but undecodable)

Does this means the video itself is OK? Is there anything that I should set in TMPGEnc?

I think the video is encoded using Xvid

Have you tried Vdub MP3 Freeze - this checks for video freezes which you avi may have even if it does not have any bad or undecodable frames.
