I've just bought a DMR-E55 and am absolutely over the moon with it. It records like a dream, the picture quality is great and it plays everything I've thrown at it.

The one thing that I haven't been able to sort out yet is the following:

If I burn a movie onto a DVDRAM disk using my PC DVD burner (& Nero 6), the E55 won't play it and tells me the disk is unformatted.

It will play DVD-R and DVD-RW burnt on my PC no problem.

I have a pile of DVD-RAM disks and was planning on using them as test disks, for my home-authored DVDs.

Obviously, I can buy some DVD-RW disks to accomplish this task but I'm intrigued as to whether I'm doing something wrong.

Any help would be gratefully received.

    Cheers

I've just come off the phone to Panasonic UK's helpline. Apparently it's possible to buy a software application that allows video to be burnt to DVD-RAMs in a PC DVD burner, which will then play in the DMR-E55.

I'm now waiting for full details from Panasonic.

Has anybody else come across the aforementioned software

    Cheers

As I am sure you were told from Panasonic, the DVD-RAM video has to be in DVD-VR format, so you just can't burn a movie to DVD-RAM and play it like you would a DVD-R/W. I used DVD-RW's for testing.

I am not familiar with the software they recommend, but am very interested to find out. Could you please post a follow-up and let us know?

    Thanks,

    Yup,

its DVD Moviealbum SE, I've posted some info on this before you may want to run a search also pay a visit to

    http://www.thewholewideweb.com/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=7

and search for pinacle / dvd moviealbum se there was quite a discussion going on about it.

In short it will let you extract programmes from dvd ram and make dvd compliant dvd mpegs from the files and also take mpegs with appropriate additional information files, (not sure what these are I'm afraid since I don't use that aspect), and put them onto a dvd ram disk for playback in a panasonic e50/55/80/100/HS2

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

  6. U jkust need a DVD-RAM writer for your PC, they are cheap, I got a panasonic lf-d521 & it takes cart based disks too.

after you put it in you put on a DVD-RAM driver that comes with it.

I already have an LG GMA-4020b in my PC, which I'm very happy with. I'd like to crack this problem without purchasing a new drive.

    Thanks for the tip, though.

Wingnut was spot on; the software that the Panasonic helpline guy mentioned turns out to be DVD Movie Album SE.

Here's a copy of his email for anyone that's interested in getting hold of the software:

'With reference to your recent email - Please be advised that DVD Movie Album SE Software - Part number VFF0128 is only available from the USA. To order, please email npcparts@panasonic.com Asking for part number VFF0128'

    That said...

if anyone has got a copy of the said software that they want to sell, please drop me a line. Apparently, the software only costs $7 but shipping costs are $40!

    Cheers

PS Sorry it took so long to post this info, I was on holiday in Bonnie Scotland last week.
