  1. Hi,
I plan to buy one of them? Any comment on the strength of
    each package?

I care more about the quality, the transition, easy to use, Ken Burns
    effect.

    Thanks

I think you should take rcb's advice and download trials of each and decide for yourself. I can't speak for the latest version of Proshow Gold but the one that I have doesn't do the Ken Burns effect.

I tried the Proshow gold and like the features but when applying the ken burns affect it had to be applied on each individual picture that I used for a slideshow. I wasn't too thrilled with having to do 200 pictures. If anyone knows of a way to apply the kens burn effect on all selected pictures, I would appreciate learning how that is done. Thanks!

I have memoriesontv it is the best slideshow software I've ever used. It was worth the $49.95 that includes the MPEG plugin for creating DVD's. I created a family slideshow with 220 pictures and used the ken burns smoke plugin. I tried out the trials first then purchased them. I agree with rcb in downloading the trials then see which one you'll like.

    Hi! Sifaga,

Thanks for replying to my question. I have 2.0. I just clicked on edit and select all then clicked on slide and chose randomize motion effect. I used only 5 pictures to test it out and it works. I tried it over the weekend & probably should have given it more time to load since I have 200 pictures. I'll try it out again on the weekend when I have more time.

  7. I really like the new Proshow Gold 2.0.

However, I've noticed that it runs slower than the previous versions. Anyone notice this? or is it just my machine?

  8. Feature that I think MOTV better
    1. ability to customize effect, so I can limit only effects that I like.
    2. ability to use tmpgenc

    Proshow
    1. more effects
I am still waiting for ability to set up the transition time during
sync with audio, rather than fix 2 seconds.

  9. If your view your output only on tv, then you can buy either one. The output quality is comparable and with proshow version 2 you get ken burns effect as in MOTV. MOTV allows you to cusomize using tmpgenc but you have other customizing options in proshow. Proshow has more transitions, if you are interested in that, but couple of transitions in Motv are really good. So, all in all, these two programs are the best available as of now FOR TV slideshow ouput.
But if you want to watch your show on computer or on web, proshow wins hands down. The output on the computer is superb and also you can host your shows on their website. They still have some kinks to be sorted out but my guess is that in another month or so they should have a pretty stable version.
Both of them allow trial downloads and you can see the results for yourself.

One question on ProShow Gold 2.0 :

I'm using the Create Video File option, in order to create the MPEG2 file which I will then import on the DVD authoring software that I use.

On "Video Format Preset" I chose the Custom option instead of the DVD option ( which has fixed value for bitrate ). I then set the bitrate to whatever value I like.
BUT the final MPEG2 file has audio as 44KHz instead of the standard 48KHz produced when I choose DVD option, even having made sure that the format is set to MPEG2 .
This causes the MPEG2 to be rejected and reencoded on my DVD authoring software.

Anyone know how to make Proshow set audio as 48KHz when working with Custom option ?

Also, I would like to hear your opinions about the best setting (value ) for the "Desaturate images to" option.

The latest MOTV will do 16x9 TV slide shows. Very cool!

MOTV can do multiple zoom/pan/pause in one slide. PSG2 takes additional slide to do each addtional effects. So you have to use at least 3 of the same picture side by side to pause and then zoom then pause again in a picture.

PSG2 has a very nice looking accelerating and decelerating zoom/pan.

PSG2 has great text effects. Shadow and outline text, and text movement.

PSG2 you can have background music in addition individual slide sound.

PSG2 is very new and has many bugs to fix.

Re MOTV, will it allow you to make DVD Mpeg II output using TMPEGEnc Plus if you don't have the MOTV mpeg II plugin? I have tried with their demo and can't get it to work.

I'm not sure, I have used TMPEGEnc to encode, but I have their plugin. I suggest you email them and ask. I would be interested in their answer.

BTW an new update has been released 2.1.5.
