  1. I have the newest version of VirtualDub and both versions 2.0 and 2.1 of TMPGEnc. Here's what I do: I capture a multisegmented AVI with VirtualDub. I go through and edit the AVI with VirtualDub, and set up the Frameserver exactly as explained by the VCDHelp.com guide. I start up TMPGEnc and load the vdr.avi file I created, and TMPGEnc just has the hourglass going and the computer says it's not responding. I figured it was just loading and left it alone for 15 hours and it still hadn't loaded, so I don't think that's it. I know Frameserver works because when I have a 20 second clip to be Frameserved, it works fine... but when I have a 20 minute clip, the computer just sits on that hourglass. Am I doing something wrong? I don't think it's my computer, I have a 900 Mhz AMD with 256 Megs of Ram, Win 98, etc etc.

  2. Don't know if this is the reason, as I'm not an advanced user, but I remember I had to 'up' the priority of directdraw in TMpegEnc, otherwise my system hung when I tried using frameserver. The details are in the 'using virtualdub frameserver with TmpegEnc' guide on vcdhelp.com

  3. I tried upping the priority and the program still hangs. I did a little experimenting and I figured this out: the problem seems to be length and not source. If I make a 10 minute clip and frameserve it, everything is fine. This doesn't matter if it's from one AVI or multiple AVI files. If I have a 20 minute AVI file, TMPGEnc crashes. Anyone have any other ideas of how I can get TMPGEnc to read my VDR file?

TMPG does not encode avi files, that is larger than 2 GB, I believe. So if the 20min_clip.avi is larger than 2 GB, split it to 20min_clip.00.avi and 20min_clip.01.avi (segmented avis) and frameserve to TMPG.
