I have an avi file. I was told to use tmpgenc dvd author to convert it to a vob and then drag the contents of the vob file into video ts folder in Nero. So I installed tmpgenc dvd author. I went to add file. It wouldn't accept my avi file. Said only mpg 1 or 2. I thought the whole point of tmpgenc was to convert avi files.

Basically, all I want is to take my avi file and burn it to DVD.

    S.O.S. can anyone help?

Burning to CD-Rs I have down pat, but burning to DVD-Rs I need help with.

What are you doing? Where are you adding your file? Are you encoding it first or are you trying to author an AVI file - that won't work.

  3. The TMPGEnc video encoder will convert your file, not TMPGEnc DVD Author.

  4. Well, tmpgenc plus will convert it to mpg2, but you'll still probably need an authoring program (like tmpg author) to make vobs

I understand it is like this: I take my avi file into tmpgenc (can I use tmpgenc plus???) and use it to convert to mpg, then I use tmpgenc dvd author to convert it to vob ( how i do that exactly I am not sure), then I drag the entire contents of the vob file into Nero video ts folder and burn to DVD? OMG - what a few steps.

Can I use tmpgenc plus to convert the avi to mpg? Does it actually work?

And I am unclear about the dragging the entire contents of the vob file (after tmpgenc dvd author changes the mpg to vob) into Nero video ts file?

    Capture>Encode>Author>Burn

    That's the process.

Yes, TMPGEnc Plus will encode your file to a DVD legal MPEG2 just fine.

Once you author your DVD title set, (the VIDEO_TS + AUDIO_TS folders you are confused about) you use a burning program like Nero to actually put them on DVDr media.
