I have been capturing low-quality mpeg1 tv shows using my All-in-Wonder 7500 and want to be able to put about 6 hours of them onto a DVD-R disc to play in my standalone DVD player and/or my computer dvd-rom drive (I know that my Mintek 1600 doesn't have problems reading the mpeg1 files when I burned one to a CD-R). I need to know what is the cheapest (preferably FREE) and easiest program to use to accomplish this task. I have tried searching the tools here but it is all confusing to me. Creating an easy-access title menu for each TV show would be nice, but isn't a requirement. HELP!!!![]()

I used TMPGEnc DVD author for that purpose. Try the 30 day trial out and see if it works for you. It's pretty easy to use, you can add chapter breaks and they have some menu templates for use. I've never made my own menus but this program has worked well for me.

A couple of things to note - I assume that you are capturing direct to MPEG-1 ? If so, capture at the biggest resolution you can and with the highest bitrate you can. Re-encode these MPEG-1 files with TMPGEnc Free to the bitrates that you need to fill up the DVD. Keep in mind that you will need to make sure that your audio is sampled at 48KHz(DVD standard), and not 44.1KHz (VCD standard). It is probably easiest to just capture at 48KHz and it will save you converting it later. Then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make some menus and author the DVD for you.
If in doubt, Google it. -
I agree, any other authoring program other than tmpgenc dvd author and you will have to reencode the audio on the mpeg1's before you are able to burn the disks.

hehehe.... this is true.... I hadn't updated it since I got my new computer.... but the profile is accurate now....... so there! :P

I guess I should use TMPGEnc DVD Author then, since I checked and I am unable to record my mpeg1 tv show audio at 48, only at 44.....and I don't wanna have to figure out how to reencode it.... (too complicated for my little brain)

It is MMC 7.5. The ATI website says that my version would have to purchase a new installation CD in order to get the upgrade to the higher versions....
-
Here is a quote from the ATI website:
"Owners of RADEON™ 9000/9200/9500/9600/9700/9800 series graphics adapters, ALL-IN-WONDER® 9800 PRO/9700PRO / 9000 / VE multimedia adapters, or users who have an existing MMC 8.1 installation CD have access to a free upgrade to MMC 8.8. (requires an original installation CD to validate DVD decoder update).
Owners of older ATI products currently using MMC 7.7.0.1 or older software will need to purchase a new installation CD in order to install the MMC 8.8 DVD support. Information on purchasing an installation CD can be found at ATI.com."
I haven't tried downloading a new version, though. The website says I need to have an installation CD in my drive that proves that I have a more current version card in order to even get the update....
It does say that I can upgrade from 7.5 to 7.7.... don't know if that is a good idea or not.....
-
I tried upgrading to 7.7 but the library button on the MMC toolbar gave an error message "failed to initialize the program", so I went back to 7.5.... I tried it twice (by uninstalling/reinstalling) and go the same message....
-
The only thing you will be missing if you upgrade to the latest MMC is the DVD decoder. My 7500 came with 7.7 and I have updated several times and I currently use 8.8. The ATI DVD player is crap. I would much rather use Power DVD anyway.
To get 48000hz audio just create an all new mpeg-1 profile like this:
Then adjust the next screens to mirror the VCD profile. -
I tried loading MMC 7.7 again and it still gave the same error message when trying to open the library.... The ATI website won't let me ugrade to anything higher unless you own a installation CD that already has 8.1 or higher on it....
I would have invested in getting an all-in-wonder 9800 or something that already comes supplied with MMC 8.x but those have to be connected directly to the computer's power supply and my computer doesn't have any available power cords to do that...
I already own WinDVD so I guess I don't need another DVD decoder, right?
