I saw the availability of a beta 2 version in the tools new tools section.
Visited the site to download.
The good and interesting news is that it now supports up to 8 audio and 8 subtitle tracks WOW!!!
The bad news is that the link to the .exe is removed and reverts back to the main page.
Is it just me and my connection or do others failed to download it?

The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Well, I figured it out.
If you go to page
http://dvdlab.net/dvdlab/history.html
the download link doesn't work.
If you go to page
http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/history.html
the download link WORKS!
The two pages appear identical. I arrived at this page *by accident* just browsing around. My only hint was that the download link on the second page was not greyed but blue, indicating an unvisited link.
Interesting.
what's more interesting in the new beta version (if it works and doesn't crash) is that it accepts .srt files and renders subpictures in a single step. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Additional fun stuff:
If you go to page
http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/historypro.html
it states:
PRO Beta 2 (not yet released)
All the features of DVD-lab Standard plus:
- True Multi-VTS authoring tool (design exactly what you want)
- 8 audio channels
- 8 subtitle channels.
It appears the good people at Mediachance are too busy writing good software that they don't have enough time to update the site. Never mind...The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
What is really cool is the dvd-lab talk script language Oscar is working on.
Check out this picture:

whoa, looks so cool!-----------------------------------------------------

Where on earth did you find this? Where is this thingy invoked from ?
Although it is nice and can be powerful, the good thing with programs like DVDLab and TMPGEnc DVD Author is that they hide all that from the user.
With Scenarist, this is just about the only way to do navigation, although admittedly it allows much more powerful features compared to DVDLab (yet - I hope)
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
And if anyone wants a powerful MPEG stream analyser use DVDLab's MPEG parser. It's the best way to understand the MPEG video stream's structure.
I started writing such a program a few months ago, and once I saw the feature within DVDLab, I scrapped my project. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
You stated in your original post that you saw beta 2 was available. But it doesn't appear to be. Or am I just not finding it?
I don't have a bad attitude...
Life has a bad attitude! -
The standard version (which does not support 8 audio and subs
) is available. The Pro (which support 8 audio and subs) is still not available yet. -
Spiffy menus and millions of audios --- Wonderful
Now who the hell does that ?
The problem is down in the dungeons where simple muxing of
streams, chapter placement , audio sync , etc is broken .
I admire the hell out of this program , but first you build
a good foundation on your house , then you paint it. -
I find that odd too. The weirdest part is that those things seem to have been working, then some things are added and all hell breaks loose with the program.
I'm wondering if the development is being to aggressive at this point. They should probably only be adding one or two major functionality changes per beta. Maybe only add multiple audio, then have the shakedown period, then after that is solid, add subtitles, etc.
Then again, this is really one guy doing all this development. -
Ahh ... but one guy against a company with plenty of guys. To me, even though the program is buggy at times, it does adequately perform its job.
-
Dont waist your time with this beta. It can not even accept chapters without giving you errors. Seems like it will be good when the bugs are worked out though.
