  1. Ok i have an avi that is captured from my DV cam. I want to export some of the frames to some photo editor ( say Adobe Photoshop) do some editing on then and then import them back to avi.

How can that be done ?
    what software(s) will i need ?
I have U lead visual studio, Virtual dub, MovieDV suite, adobe photoshop 7.
I have searched the guides also but could not find any.
    Any little can be useful.

    TIA

Open your movie with Virtualdub, go to "Video" and select "Copy Frame To Clipboard", then paste into your photo editor. If you receive an error when opening your movie in Vdub you'll probably need to install a DV codec such as the Mainconcept DV Codec. I'm not sure how you would put them back into the avi though. I would imagine it can be done with Premiere.

  3. Thanks teegee,
I dont get errors while opening the avi file in Virtualdub and i think copying frame from the movie wont be a prob either.
Now the tricky part is to get that edited frame back to the avi, hoping to get some help on that also.

i think there are 2 options:

    1)
    - save frames as images and edit them
    - import movie and cut out unneeded frames
    - insert the images where needed
    - export movie

    2)
    use frame editing.
this is much more puwerfull, but mostly not supported by low priced software.

A perfect example is Adobe Premiere (I use v6.0) - you can export the timeline as a frame sequence that can then be edited in something like Adobe Photoshop. Then re-imported back to Premiere. But at a cost for the software...

You can tell Vdub to output a selected range of frames to
bitmap files. It will also import a bunch of bitmaps into an AVI
