    Hello all,
I've just run into a little problem with my attempts to burn a backup of a DVD. I ripped the DVD with DVD Shrink and saved it to my hard drive as audio and video ts files. I then tried to burn them to a dvd as a data disc with Record Now, which at then end of the burn said there was an error. The error message was that the files did not match the original file. I tried playing the disc in my dvd player where it would pause and lock up throughout different parts of the movie. I figured the backup had been corrupted and deleted the old files and ripped again. This time to test the rip I burned it to DVD+RW. I tried this burn on my computer where it worked fine, and the bad one did the same thing. So that cleared my dvd player of the error. I made a dvd copy with Record Now from the DVD+RW to a new DVD+R. This time no error, but again would freeze up in my dvd player. Just to give it one last try I wrote the second rip audio and video ts files that worked on the DVD+RW directly from the computer to a DVD+R disc, when I once again got the same error message from Record Now. Any ideas what is going on?

    Here are my specs
    Memorex DVD+RW
    Memorex DVD+R
    HP Media Center
    2.8G P4
    1.5G RAM
    160G HD
    XP Pro
    DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6
    Record Now 4.56

    Edit:
To add to my confusion, I tried converting the audio and video ts files to an iso with Imgtools classic and then burning with DVD Decrypter using the verify function of Decrypter. At about 90% of the verify process I got an error message from decrypter that read the following:
    I/O error!

    Device: [3:0:0] HP DVD Writer 300c 5h30 (e

    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: check condition

    CDB: 28 00 00 1F B9 B0 00 00 01 00
    Interpretation: read(10) - Sector: 2079152

    Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 12 00 00 00 00 11 00 00 00 00 00
    Interpretation: Unrecovered Read Error

What's going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried other brands of +R disks with this writer? If not could just be that your writers does'nt agree with this particular disk. So you may need to try different brands till you find one that's most reliable for you.

Thanks, but I don't think that is it. I have burned about 30 DVD's out of this same case of dvd's(they were vhs captures that I authored to dvd). I don't know what else it could be though?!!!!

I would take bdf24's advice and try other media
because from what you say it fails @ 90% and since the files are from shrink I would imagine that its near to capacity (where most poor media fails - edge of disc)
your vhs captures I would guess would not be so big hence no issues (tho I could be wrong)

Ok, after reading your posts and reading a guide on Lord Smurfs site, I decided to try the burn with dvd shrink again, but compressing the files to 4400mb or less. This time the burn worked out ok. So, I'm good now, thanks for the help.
As an aside, why can the DVD+RW take the the bigger burn of the dvd than the DVD+R? Just cause I'd like to know.

It all depends on the media. The DVD+RW's your using probobly have the die reaching all the way to the outside of the disk. The DVD+R's your using are not made as good and the die does'nt reach the outside all the way around. So when you burn to full capacity you'll get errors cause of the defects.
Atleast that's my take on it. All media is made to different standards. Even disks from the same batch can be different.
