Authoring a new DVD from an original one

Hi!

sorry if this new topic is unnecessary, but i cant seen to find what i need in other topics...

My name is João, I'm from Portugal, and i've been having some problems in recording a DVD, I tought
i might ask you guys help, if you dont mind.
I backup a DVD to the pc hard disk with the film, menu, all substitles files and all sound files.
After, using Vobedit I got the sound video files (ac3) and the subtitles, to a paste. I took one of the
subtitles, which were in english and spanish, translate then inti portuguese, created a new subtile in the same
paste as the first two, and with Ifoedit, on the option DVD Author, added the video sound files with the
subtitles (in english, spanish and portuguese) and saved the into a diferent paste.
The film was working quite well, with all the audio and subtitles files working fine.
Since i also wanted the original menus, and i didnt know how to do it, i copied the files that i describe
just before, ans put them in the original paste of the film, except the files: video_ts.bup vts_01_0 and VTS_01_0.bup
Afterwards, i record the DVD, and put it on my DVD player to check out the result.
The menu was working, everyhting seem to be just right, but when i pushed "Play", the film starts on the
second chapter, and not on the first, like it was supossed to. However, the subtiles match as well as the sound.
After this all speech, here is my question.
What do you think when wrong? Can you identify what caused this? Was something wrong during the selection of files?
Any advice?
Has any of you ever tried to do the same and end up in the same situation?

Eu tb sou português e tb me chamo João.

Nunca fiz o que descreves pelo menos não dessa forma e não conheço bem nenhum desses programas, mas uma alternativa era rippar o filme para o disco com o CloneDVD, excluíndo o áudio q não interessa e as legendas e depois com um editor de legendas (encontras alguns na secção Tools. n sei se há para VOB´s) colar as legendas no video - n percebi se querias legendas seleccionáveis mas suponho q não.

Senão vais ter q passar os VOB´s para mpeg, fazer o reauthoring dos menus e nessa altura juntar legendas - há vários q aceitam.

Uma última dica - se queres respostas aqui faz textos mais resumidos e não te esqueças que pasta diz-se folder (paste quer dizer colar)

loll ainda bem k me das essas dicas e fico contente por encontrar alguem portugues por aki, pra trabalhar as legendas em vob's ainda nao encontrei nada mas vou me explicar melhor pode ser k me possas ajudar:
com o drypter passei o filme pro disco com td o k keria mas como ne tem legendas em portugues, ripei as legendas pra srt com o workshop traduzi as legendas depois com o srt2sup converti pra sub e depois com o supremap alterei as cores, com o vobedit fiz demux pra separar os fixeiros pra m2p ac3 e as legendas pra uma pasta depois colokei as novas legendas nessa pasta e fiz o DVD author com o ifoedit pra voltar a juntar os fixeiros ate aki td bem correu bem e ficou a funcionar direitinho mas sem menu começava logo o filme mas com opçao de selecionar som e legendas. keria o menu original no filme tentei de varias maneiras mas tds sem secesso entao fiz akilo k disse em cima e ficou a funcionar direitinho, filme,som,legendas e menu o unico problema é k o 1º capitulo foi se começa no segundo mas com o som e legendas sincronizadas se me poderes ajudar força e la saiu mais um monologo lolll

Hello again.
I believe i didn't make myself very clear in the previous messages, so, i'll try to explain exactly (and in a more understandable way!) what I'm trully looking for.I was offer some DVD, but those dont have subtitles in my own language, so, i created now subtiles, just like is said in https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/197950.php and so far so good. I had some problems concerning the subtiles colours but i's correct now. The original subtitles were
-English
-Spanish
-Spanish.
So, i took the subtitles i created, and in the Step 5 (og the webpage i just mentioned) i rearranje the subtiles in
-English
-Spanish
-Portuguese.
What i did was take off one of the spanish subtitle and replace it with the portuguese ones, created by me. So far, so good. Having the new subtitles was not the only thing i wanted. I also wanted the original menu therefore, i copied the files VTS_01_1 , VTS_01_2, VTS_01_3 , VTS_01_4 and paste them into the original film folder. In theory, i just replace a subtitle, therefore, i expected that the final result would be just perfect. Now the problem is:
The menu is working fine, the subtitles are working fine, everything seems to be just perfect, except one small detail, which seems to be a big problem. The 1st chapter of the movie seems to be missing. What i mean is, when i press play on the menu, it starts on chapter 2. And when i go to "scene selection", and choose, chapter 1, it goes to chapter 2.However, when the chapter 2 starts, it starts with the perfect audio and the correct subtitles to the time. So basicly this is it. What could have gone wrong? The menu is working, the subtiles are perfect, but the chapter 1 is missing.
Now, can any of you please help me fix this crap?
I mean, i cant figure out what might have gone wrong.

I use shrink dvd to rip and clone dvd to burn a backup copy. It also allows you to keep or get rid of subtitles. Both have great instructions and work like a champ.

Here I am, once more, lets see if we can understand eachother.

First, thanx for those who answer me, even that didnt help, at least it was a moral suport
Second, i believe my post was in the right Topic, but, that's OK.
Third, althought i've been regulary to this webpage, it's the first time in two years that i ever written a post, however, noone seems to understand what i want.
I'll try to make myself more clear this time, so that maybe anyone who try this, might read and help out.

I have and original DVD with NO subtitles in my language.
I followed your tuturial in https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/197950.php but instead of addinn new subtiles I SWITCH one of the subtitles in the DVD to the ones in my language.
Then I dis DVD Authoring using IfoEdit, to glue back together all the files.
Doing this, The movie ends up with no menu, but i wanted the original menu as well.
To save me from doing a new menu, i copied the files that resulted from DVD authoring, and paste then into the film original folder.
It seemed to be everything allright, but it is not.

After looking really deep into it, i found out, that when i press Play, the film starts in chapter 4 (not in chapter2, as said in previous messages).
I try to solve this, and i use DVDRemake to see where the missing chapters were.

After hours of research, I noticed that in the original DVD, when you press play, it begins reading the chapters in the file VTS_PGC_2 , and them jumps to the file VTS_PGC_1 and reads the following chapters until the end of the film.
I found out, that chapters 1, 2 and 3, are in the file VTS_PGC_2 (picture 1), and chapter 4 and ahead are in the file VTS_PGC_1 (picture 2).
Further more, i also found out, that on the contraire to the original one, here, when i press play, it begins to read the files in VTS_PGC_1.
Now, what I want, is just to be able to press play and the film start in chapter 1 like its supposed to!

Did I make myself clear now?

First, noone owes you anything. Second, probably noone knows a suggestion to fix your problem.

I have a feeling IFOEdit might be able to help, but I don't know in what capacity. It sounds like we just need to set it to launch PGC_2 to start with, and then put a jump to PGC_1 at the end.

I'm interested to know why you would have purchased a DVD that is not in your language ? Subtitling a film seems like a waste to me...but anyway...
