  1. I have purchased and installed a new px-708a on my XP sytem, and it burns just fine.

    but there is a problem...

if I have a disc in it, anytime I open my computer, it sort of freezes, it acts like it is searching for all the disc info, but it never seems to find it.

I try to run Nero info tool, but it hangs up at the part where it gets the drive info, I have to hit eject, and once the tray opens up info tools gets all the info it needs for the drive...

I tried dvdinfopro, and it works fine with no disc in the drive. As soon as I put a disc in and try to get the media info, I get the little hourglass cursor, and the window stops responding.

To burn a disc with nero, I have to actually start the burn, then when it asks for a disc, insert it. If the disc is in there before, it hangs as well. It doesn't crash, but it seems like it is trying to access something that takes literally forever.

dvddecryptor: I have to start it first, then put a disc in.

    any ideas what's wrong?

    I have the 708A,

I have used the same programs you spoke of, not sure what the problem is, I guess I will just start with some question:

The disk you are talking about, are they DVD or CD,
are they original or copies? if original are they copy protected?

  3. dvd's, vd's, blanks, pressed, or burned, they all do the same thing.

dvddecryptor seems to work fine most of the time, but I can't seem to get windows itself to recognize that there is a disc in there, it's like it just keeps endlessly searching.

    same with infotool and dvdinfopro

if I do start-run-e: (my plextor) it does the same thing, the only thing that gets the programs to continue is to eject the disc, then I get an error that there is no disc.

  4. i uninstalled every dvd and cd related program i have, and it seems to work now, so I will install them one by one, reboot, and test, to narrow it down.

Make sure the drive is in DMA mode.

You may want to post your problem in the Plextor forum at cdfreaks.com
