  1. I am running WinXP and i have tried TMPGEnc and MyFlix, both give really bad syncing problems with audio and video, at least a seconds or two off even. What can i do to fix this or can someone tell me how and what to use to cut and merge VCD MPGs. I need to cut out commercials from my recording and put it into 1 file...

I've heard that extracting audio first then putting it back into TMPGenc works but how do i do that? (easier way?)

    Netslayer,

You haven't mentioned your source. That is, are you caping to avi and then encoding to vcd or svcd? ...or hardware MPEGing into one big captured file?

SECT 1: As for me, when I cap via avi, I prefer the frameserving route, to tmpgenc and cut out comm. via tmpg's [x] Source feature, and works great every time! And, I just
started using the 352x480 resolutions for my SVCD's instead
of the 480x480, and comes out looking great every time!

SECT 2: ...else, if i'm caping via hardware mpeg (PVR), I
A - in Womble, de-mux and then re-mux the audio for
    complete .mpg file
B - (new process for me) cut out commercials and copy each
    clip to clipboard
C - save each clip separately (no re-encoding, as far as
I can tell) [its very quick]

SECT 3: burn to cd via Nero.
A - Copy all clips into Nero
B - set pause to "0" by Right click ea file or all files,
click Properties and type an "0" zero over the "5" seconds.
C - don't forget to drag your SCANDAT.DAT file into the
EXT folder in Nero. That is, if you suffer the RW/FF
illness (as I do) when you play your cd in your dvd player.

That's about it for me and my process to some extent.
Oh, case you don't have the SCANDAT.DAT file, this/here is
    how to create the file:
A - First, open up NOTEPAD
B - copy this into the first line (with no returns after
it, on one line by itself) and then save file as
SCANDAT.DAT . (just the 'SCAN_VCD' all by itself, and
    save as "SCANDAT.DAT"
C - then, drag this file (SCANDAT.DAT) into Nero's EXT
    folder, and Burn!

    NOTEPAD - SCANDAT.DAT
    ------------------------------------------
    SCAN_VCD

I just got done doing this process a little while ago,
and burned to cd and it played (all segments) in my apex
    dvd player.

Ok, what I use when capturing TV shows or movies, etc.:
DC10+ - when I feel like testing caps and encodes or
    whathave ya.
WinTV PVR - when I cap a dvd or if hard drive space is
running out and time is crucial at that given time, etc.
ATI Rage Fury Pro (AGP) - because I just got it - for
testing purposes. This card doesn't do 352x480, unless
someone know something I don't!! he. he...

    Netslayer,

I hope you see this, being that this site went through some changes.
Anyways, there seems to be a limit to the number of posts displayed
on the NEW or most recent area of this site, http://www.vcdhelp.com/
and when you click on the "http://www.vcdhelp.com/phpBB/latest.php?selorder=today"
link, well, you don't see other posts.

Anyways, I have an update to what I posted earlier (now yesterday).
for SECT 2, A - I now just skip it. even more effeciant (faster)
I stumbled across this - not having to de-mux and re-mux my audio.
I skiped it, and burned to cd and all the clips played in my dvd player.
great! Boy, I flew though my Star Trek Enterprise svcd burn real quick.
Took me 6 minutes to cut out the commercials and another xx min. to
    burn with nero.

Tomorow (today) I will cap my satalete's playing of the "GoGo Girls"
live in concert on Freeview with my PVR and see how this new process
works. Can't wait. But, I'm tired and it's pushing 3:15am here.

Just thought you and other would like to know.
Boy, this Hardware mpeg-2 PVR (usb model) is great!!

  4. Joining MPEGs is a bad idea. If you start from AVI, you should do all the non-linear editing on your AVIs first then encode to MPEG.

BTW, 352x480 is not a SVCD resolution (though it should work for most DVD players).

    Regards.
