  1. Is this possible? I have read throught every forum here till Im cross-eyed and cannot find if it is possible. I doubt it but I wanted to ask.

I know the easiest thing is to buy a DVD player that plays both but if I ask the wife if I can buy ANOTHER piece of electronic equipment, I might need to shack up with some one from this forum.

    thanks much

  3. I'm curious as well. I have a PAL DVD on the way (Stupid Eddie Izzard only releasing his new stand-up in PAL) and am going to need to convert it to NTSC.

I'm frankly a little confused about the whole thing. It might just be easier to buy a new DVD player.

  4. Not that I've tried it, but I was thinking about trying the new DVD Rebuilder. Get it to generate the AVIsyhtn script, then modify the script for the PAL conversion. I have no idea if it will even work since I have not tried it, but from what I've read on the software so far, it might be able to do the trick. Something to try anyways.

  5. Hmmmm, that might be crazy enough to work. I just used DVD-RB and did the first step (Process) using an NTSC DVD and it created 33 .AVS files. So I guess I would have to edit each and every .AVS with the conversion information. Then I would just run steps 2 (Encode) and 3 (Rebuild). I don't know where the menus would fit into all of this. Probably step 3, but I'm not sure the menus are being converted at any point. Once I spend all the time editing the .AVS files I'm anticipating an error when it goes to encode the DVD and if by some miracle there isn't one I'm expecting one on the rebuilding of the DVD and if by some even larger miracle there is none I'm expecting it not to play in my DVD player, hahahahaha. I don't think what we are trying to do can be done.

I'm also using this guide and trying to make it work for DVD-RB: http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/index.html#PALVideoDVD2NTSCDVD

I decided to revive this post to see if anybody knows where in the dvd menu stucture to change the starting point of cells in vobs.

Ive been trying to replace the main vob in a pal VIDEO_TS folder and changed all the resolutions sizes in the main ifo to ntsc but when i start the clip it starts 20 second clip of the video which is 3/4 way thru and then starts the main video.

Ive reduced the size of the vob to almost match the original vob and the 20 second clip doesnt play and it starts at the beginning but it isnt perfect.

  7. The price of a simple dvd player which will play both pal and ntsc and output whichever standard you view in, should be cheaper than a divorce lawyer.

Here in Canada, I have Philips 727 from walmart, Can$79.00 it will play both and has a menu setting to set the output standard.

Let us know which country you are in and we will help.

    Other routes are:-

Using tmpgenc, not that expensive but very long.
Using Procoder express , as above.

If you want to record another "copy" macrovision not withstanding, again a dvd playe which converts and and dvd recorder in the standard of your choice.
