  1. This is really wierd... Seems like they put a smart copy protection on this disc... .

To be short... I ripped a bought DVD with dvd-encrypter to my HD, and it turned out to be 6.50gb!!

Is it possible to copy this dvd without re-encoding the video?

(And how the hack was it possible to store 6.50gb on the disc in the first place...?)

    I'm confused....

  6. I'm in a saucy mood so I'll take this one...................

"Is it possible to copy a dvd without re-encoding?" YES .....in fact thats exacally what you just did.

"How did they fit 6.5 gigs on a single disc"? They have a wonderful tool called a "DVD Press" that "magically" puts two pressed discs together to form what is called a "DVD-9"

"I am confused" Yes we know.

sarcasim aside.....you post is perhaps the most basic knowledge needed to even attempt to back-up you dvd collection. PLEASE RESEARCH YOU QUESTIONS BEFORE ASKING IN A POST.

If you had you would realize that what you have asked is about as complicated as 1+1

  7. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOU? Are you a complete MORON? Seriously...you have 32 posts. So obviously you've been around enough to know something ... what have you been discussing for 32 posts? Didn't you read ANYTHING?

In case you're blind, which you just may be, the FIRST thing that you see when you enter the DVD to DVDR forum, on top of everything else in the list, there is a "Read me first, DVD copying methods!" sticky. The first paragraph in that says, and I quote:

"You can NOT just copy a DVD to a recordable DVD like copy a CD Audio because most DVDs are both encrypted and many won't fit on a recordable DVD cause there are only 4.38 GB recordable DVD±R/Ws(called single layer DVD-5) while many newer DVD-Videos are on 8 GB DVDs(called dual layer DVD-9)."

There is even a nice section titled "Methods to copy a DVD to recordable DVD±R/W:" that comes right after that.

    Next time, read a little...

(There...I feel better now. No, I'm not having a good day. So shush.)

  8. This is a perfect example of why tech support people sometimes seem to have bad attitudes, and why the lines are often busy.

It's not quite as good as the guy who posted a question about how to make a post.

Maybe you should try Decrypting rather than Encrypting

    Good god.

I believe the "What is DVDR" section in the top left needs reading...urgently.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  20. I find sikki_nixx's post to be very pleasing. At least the sarcasm was lightened a little as supposed to those "I just ripped my DVD so what should I do next?" threads that lazy people post.

I like the posts that go like this, "I heard DVD+R is better because it is a PLUS format. So why do so many people seem to prefer that MINUS format?"

I wonder if you can tell us, what work have you done before? such as, what did you rip that was less then 4 gig and was not confused about?

Also I am a little afraid to find out what advice you have given 32 times..

32 Posts and you are confused, or did you ask 31 dumb question's before this on?

  27. Just shows that all the fuss about CSS is useless. Just by putting a movie on a DL disc is enough for the average user not to be able to copy it.
Now, with the DL burners coming out they should be more worried. Even sikki_nixx will be able to copy them.

I think you are giving this guy more credit then he deserves, remember he is trying to cram 6.5 gig into 4.38 gig disk and he is confused.

This is below average thinking, he is a customer service rep. headache or could be a reps. relief call, you know something to talk about for a loooooooong time and laugh about!!!

Is that anything like trying to put a square peg into a round hole?

In response to the original question...

    Have you rebooted?

Is DMA enabled in BIOS and Windows?
(Warning, only use with an Intel CHIP, enabling DMA on an AMD will cancel out and render your system inoperable.)

Is your keyboard 103-key or 104-key?
(Some backups won't rip properly with odd numbered keyboards.)

Is it possible that your firmware is flaccid?
(Try a hard reboot to correct this.)

    Try using a DVD+R instead of a DVD-R
(These hold 2R more data and may solve your size issue.)

Is your original a double-sided disc?
(You may need to flip your blank over and reinsert it to match sizes.)

If all else fails, just reformat the disc, unless it's a rewriteable, then just erase it.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
