  1. As usual I search the site AND the web for answer but no luck. Even called Sony and they could not give me a decent answer, so I come to you, the experts. Recently bought the Sony RDR GX7 and love it, but have a question. I have an hour of video consisting of 5 seperate events with some blank video in between each segment. How do I put all the video onto dvd at one time, and then make a menu with titles for each event that will take me to that event when I select that title? I know it can be done with authoring software on the PC with a DVD burner, but how is this done on the Sony RDR GX7? Or can it? Can you only do this with +/-RW or can you use -R? Thanks and LOVE the forum!

  2. I recently bought a Sony RDR GX-7, and think this is a great machine...but it's difficult to learn all the aspects unless you have time to experiment......
If you're talking about inputting a source video, say from VHS or camcorder of 5 segments, I think it best to use either -RW or +RW discs.
Hidden under the lower part of the remote are the controls for real time recording, pause and playback, just like a VCR
So, take your input, set the record speed to one hour mode, and follow the intructions in the manual....... hit the 'record pause' key, and start your source video, then just record the segment in real time, and press stop when it's done....... the Sony will automatically create a title, but not a menu. I believe Titles are easy to edit in Video mode using rewritable discs, but not in VR mode with a -R disc. Just use record and stop for each segment until the disc fills up and edit the titles afterward.

I've been using mine basically since I bought it without looking at the manual, just to record movies and TV shows, but I see you really need to study the manual to figure out the differences between -R/RW, +RW and VR and Video mode........ But I wouldn't try doing 5 segments with a write once -R disc, since chances are you'll screw it up, at least with rewritables you can erase them and do it over until you get it right

  3. Thanks for the reply Statifier. Yes I have come to the conclusion that you cannot do that with RDR GX7 but I wonder if it could be done on a DVD recorder with a hard drive. It's basically putting an hour's worth of video onto a hard drive and then editing it into the five segments. I just haven't researched enough about DVD recorders with hard drives. But perhaps I will. Thanks anyway.

  4. check the manual pp 67. -RW disc in VR mode...you would create a play list from your captured video...I haven't done this on the unit but seems to be what you are looking for(?)..
