  1. Hello to all,
I read all the time & have done numerous testing with different conversion progs. my latest adventure was to try out intervideo's dvdcopy platinum2..they claim that there conversion from dvd-9 to dvd-5
(dual layer to single layer) is a perfect copy...well folks sorry to disappoint
but this is totally false..after numerous tests with different size dual layer movies all the outcomes were the same.. no pixelation but there was tremendous video noise from frame to frame...most definitely noticeable..
If your a videofile like me & quality over quanity reigns supreme, then stick to splitting the discs & be patient for the dual layers....myself I use mostly recode2 and dvd2one..I never compress anything thats over 5gigs.
I will split it..I'm no newbie at this..been testing for quite sometime.

    PEACE

For me, it all comes down to how much compression is involved.I've tried InterVideo, as well as DVD Shrink, and currently I use Nero Recode (I bought the whole bundle, so I might as well use it!) While each program gave me varied results, I found if I go below 80% compression of the movie, the quality began to suffer with all of the programs. On my 30" HDTV, the 80% mark is the lowest I will go.

Of course it is, Platinum2 is just a transcoder, but by all accounts a VERY GOOD transcoder, i've read a lot of comments on various sites about this proggy, and everyone praises it!

  4. I cut my teeth on DVD2One and would normally defend it on speed and quality, but I have to say that Intervideo's DVD Copy2 Platinum is a superb piece of software.
Nero's Recode is essentially DVD Shrink by another name (same author) and IMO is not in the same league qualitywise.

You might like to take a look at this site .... it makes interesting reading/viewing :
