hi, i have a couple of dvd movies i want to back up to divx, i was wandering what is a program that is freeware that converts a dvd straight to divx? [divx5.1.1]also i am wanting to use for the audio the program AVI-Mux_GUI-1.16.4

any info/guiides on this is greatly appreciated

thanks for the guide, i chose to do the gordian knot to divx guide

i installed everything i need, and i get to the step : Compressibility Check

and i notice that in the virtualdubmod status that the audio data stays at 0 bytes, and i did load the audio in gordian knot, is this suppose to be like that?

so far the movi ies just on 84% in vdubmod, its just 61 minutes long

its been going for about 11 hours now, does this take that long to convert?

and is the sound even working cuz its still at 0 bytes

No, not Virtual Dub. Did you check the video for bad frames before starting?

i just followed that guide exactly, the gordian knot package automatically uses the vdubmod to convert, and yes, i used the compression check in gordian knot

but for some reason, it took 11 hrs for the vid to finish with vdubmod, then it started over, so now i am on 35% with 6 hrs left

what am i doing wrong??? cuz i followed the guide exactly

i just noticed something: when it ripped the dvd, it had the same video as most of the vob files, and that video was 1gig, so i hope this one vid is the only one i needed, i previewed this vob and its the whole dvd

i will let you all know if i get this ripped the right way, and thank you for helping

ok the movie finlly finished, but however, it made 3 avi files:

the movie with sound.avi
credits with no sound.avi
movie with no sound.avi

can someone please tell me how to set it up so that it only makes the
movie with sound.avi

any help with this is needed! how to i get it to only create one avi file with the movie and sound together instead of it making 3 avi files?

i use autogk now, and i have noticed that using vdubmod, it does 2 passes, which it takes about 4 hrs for each pass, is there any way i can change this to where it will either, go faster, or make it only do a 1 pass?

or is it best just to not even worry about this? cuz 8 hrs is just too long for me!

use auto gk, read the guides, your pc is slow, this will affect your encoding time.

autoGk.. to use one PAss,, use the quality mode eg quality=75% .You howver can go down as far as quality=60%.. this will only do one pass.
n.b. Are you a newbie or a sap?
