Finaly, I can post (stupid waiting period)
Anyway I've been in this DVD to DVDr "game" for years (basically since cheap burners came around, it hink my first drive was the a02.)
To mention a couple things about DVD Copy 2
-Yes I've noticed the "bug" where the output size varies in size, sometimes it comes out 4.31, sometimes 4.15, others below 4gb. A simple redo usually fixes it.
-DVD Copy IS better than Shrink, hands down. And if you get DVD Copy 3, you can actually give priority filesize to the main title (or any others if you want), which was the only real disadvantage to the 2nd one.
-Instantcopy can approach DVD Copy's quality...but, for me at least, its a highly buggy program.
-DVD Copy sometimes inserts artifacts that are not really there, if you scroll through you could notice little white blocks/noise, and obviously that'll be quite annoying when you try to watch.
So, of the normal transcoders DVD Copy is my favorite, however, I dont use them anymore..I'm now into CCE and DVD-RB.
Just for sh*ts and giggles (ive used all of the below):
1.) DVD Copy - best quality, coupled with good features in ver 3.
2.) DVD Shrink - only because # of features and ease. Quality wise it aint that hot.
3.) Instant Copy - see what I said above, it does come out with very nice quality when it works though (2)
4.) DVD2One - Okay quality, better than Shrink in some of the higher compression titles, but the lack of features is depressing.
5a.) DVDXCopy - terrible.
5b.)Nero Recode - worse than terrible.
5c.) CloneDVD - quality is subpar, feature set is alright. I feel the quality is just pathetic, just use Shrink if you want to use this.
The best thing you can do (regardless of encoder) to raise your quality is to just simply...raise your bitrate. And the easiest way of doing that is either blanking or puttin stills (ex: Shrink) in for extras, try to give the main title as much of the bitrate as you can, and in general if your watching on a decent tv, try not to shrink below 60-70% (on any app, unless its CCE or something)
