  1. Hi guys I am all very new to this, but I purchased myself a dvd burner, a Pioneer 103. Very basic but does the job for me. Now I have tried to burn my first dvd but to no avail. I used dvd decrypter to rip the movie, then I used shrink on the files to make them fit onto dvd-r. I then used shrink to burn onto dvd-r and all goes well right up unitl the very end when it stops and i get the message 'failed due to unrecoverable read error' I tried it agin thinkin that this could be a one off and again I got the same thing, I then tried to user nero6 to see if it would solve the problem but again at the very end of the burn I got the error. So out of my first 3 dvd burns I got 3 frisbees Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem, was it the original rip from dvd or what could it be. Any help and burning advice is much appreciated.
    Thankyou

Your file size is too big. You don't need to use DVD DECRYPTER to rip the files. Just use DVD SHRINK to compress. Then use NERO to burn. Are you trying to backup the entire movie including menus, audio tracks and other languages? Just some info for you, if you're reauthoring by deleting the languages & some audio tracks, you will not have the menu function anymore. You would have to choose "backup" and not reauthor to keep the menus intact.

  5. I just ran dvd shrink and it automatically brought the size from5.7 gig to 4.35 gig. I thought that 4.35would fit on 4.7gig dvd-r ??OK so I have to run dvd shrink with the original disk, then take off some menus or subtitles, until the file is what size??? Then burn this using nero?

    thanks

  6. Can anyone help me?? I have just wasted another few disks trying to get this done. Could the problem be with the original rip as with each burn after i am using the original ripped files? All mu burning files were shrunk to under 4.7gig so they would fit btw but still i get the unrecoverable read error at the very end of the burn.. This is really annoyin and a real waste of time and money....

you can go to edit in dvdshrink and then preferences. set your size smaller and re-encode

  9. Why don't you experiment with -RWs'? At least you won't end up making coasters as you can use them again.
No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

  10. Hi thanks for the reply.. What exactly does re-encode do and are there any special settings necessary..

I should use some -rw's but i am anxious to get a burn completed successfuly.

    Thanks

  11. Once you burn the r/w succesfully, the rest is easy. Qucik fixes don't seem to be an option.

  12. Are your files 4.45gb or 4.35gb ?

If they are 4.45gb they will not fit on a DVDR. A DVDR is 4.37gb not 4.7gb for details see here :
    http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#7.2

If your files are 4.45gb, try just running them through DVD Shrink again.

he was already told that 5 posts ago

  14. I know that, but in the 3rd post he said the files were 4.45gb and in the 5th post he said they were 4.35gb .... it has to be one or the other and the extra 10mb makes all the difference between a success or a failure.

I reiterated things, in case he hadn't grasped the concept ... is that ok ? 8)

So ... it doesn't appear to be a "files too big" problem

What media are you using and at what speed ?

Do you know what firmware is in the A03 ?

Have you burnt anything with it successfully ...i.e. a data disk ?

  18. the media is just blank dvd-r's plain white top with a purple dye, non brnaded by the looks of things. I have the latest firmware upgrade and not managed a successful burn yet....

Il try some other things to see if I have any joy

Sound like crap media failing at edge of disc
how far %wise on the burn is it failing?

you could try shrinking to just under 4G and see if that helps (had to do myself on poor media)

  20. Yup .... would be worth trying a Ritek disk, Pioneers love these

  21. Hi, it is failing at the very very very end of the burn... I think they are pretty bad media, the edges actually dont feel very smooth to touch?? I will try shrinkin further and will get some fresh media then.
    Thanks for the help guys.
