  1. I want to know if it is possible to backup a protected dvd with a DVD player and a rcecordable DVD player.

    Do you mean a standalone DVD player and a standalone DVD recorder. The answer would be no.

    If you mean a computer based player and recorder, the answer is yes if you remove the encryption first.

    It can be done but it would probably look like crap due to the fact that a low quality setting would be need to be used on the recorder unit. You would need to have a DVD player that can disable macrovsion, such as one of the old hackable Apex units. Either that or one of those macrovision disabling "video stabilizer" boxes. I haven't seen one in years but I'm sure they can still be found. Also, there would be no way to back-up menus because the recorder unit would only be recording what was being played on the playback unit.
