  1. Hello.

I’m relatively new to this hobby.

I’ve got Win DVR 3 for capture. But every time I try to capture a 2 hour or longer running video with it in DVD format it divides the file in two or more separate files.

When I try to increase the captured file size in this format it only allows me up to 4063 Kbits/sec.

Is there a way of bypassing this feature and increase the default maximum divided file size?

Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a FAT based file system on your harddrive. If you are running NT/2000/XP then convert it to NTFS.
If you have 9x/ME then you are stuck with the 4gig limit.
A brief description of your system/OS helps in the troubleshooting process. Add it to your profile.

  3. Windvr has default settings and at full screen dvd the default max file size is 4063Mb. My system is NTSF and the settings are the same as you say.
You can create custom settings that you can make the split file sizes whatever you want.

Goto the setup panel in windvr
    Press the record tab
    Press the profile button
Press the create button which will open another panel
Name the profile whatever you want (eg Pal DVD 4.7)
Press the system tab and change the split file size to what you want (eg 4700)
Press the video tab and change to your setting (Pal or NTSC)
Press the audio tab and change those settings to what you want (eg 48k)
Press apply and you have a new setting with your desired profiles.

I wouldn`t recommend going to large with your split file size though as depending on your card you may start to find audio sync problems towards the end af the capture. I have a wintvgo card and keep the split file to 4.3 gig and use an authoring program to join them. I use dvdlab but there are plenty of others in the tools section of this forum to choose from.

    Hope this helps

  4. My OS is Windows XP. It’s also NTSF.

The problem with split files is that when I try to merge them with TMPGenc it gives me a sound stream error when multiplexing. There’s something about the second file. The way it’s captured. I still don’t get it.

I’m thinking about discarding the second split file, recapture the second part, cutting and editing it and merging it with the first one.

    Any thoughts on this.
