    Hi all,

Please can someone confrim that i have this right.

I worked out the bitrate for a movie using gspot & vcdhelp bitrate calc. It gave be a dvd bitrate of 4648. In CCE of tmpgenc is this bitrate set as avg bitrate when using vbr?

    For example avg = 4648 min=2000 max=9000

    Thanks in advance.

Without checking the calc, if the movie is about 120 minutes then that looks correct.

So the bitrate the calc gives u use it for avg bitrate when doing vbr? When doing cbr, which is what I normally use. You only get one bitrate option, this is what confuesed me. I was not to sure if there was another calc for working out avg, min & max bitrates.

    Yes

Correct but don't use 9000 as max. The encoders aren't that precise. It may go above that and once you add the audio it may go above the DVD limit. Standalone players may have a problem with that. Don't go above 8000 ~ 8500.

You don't need to calculate the max and min values. Just go as close to the min and max rates as you can, say 1000 and 8000 or so. The widest spread possible will give the encoder the most room to properly assign the bitrate.
