  1. this only has happened twice, and has required me restart my computer to get the drive to open again. Any ideas? Yes this is 7 Hours 12 Minutes, and no progress past 6% has occured since its stopped.

  2. Any more info about your system? Motherboard make/model, OS, other system specs?

Just a suggestion, put all that info in your profile so you only need to post it once.

Out of curiosity, you aren't by chance running an nVidia nForce-based system are you? If so, uninstall the NV IDE drivers and use the MS ones. Burning problems with those drivers are well documented on this and other forums. I had lots of problems with them myself.

  3. Had this problem with a CD writer, my solution was to re-install the Nero Program. I don't know why it was stopping but re-installation stopped it, probably a corrupt file or something.
If it works, don't fix it.

  4. We need to know your system specs but I can say that I had the exact problem down to even having to restart to get the disc out of there. It was random and it would also do it with CD's while I was troubleshooting it. However, my Plextor CD-R/RW would burn all day long. It was as VinnySem said, my nForce drivers. I read it on here and "rolled back" to XP IDE drivers and all is well (after a half a dozen coasters). I can't say there's any negative impact on speed but I don't have any HDD's on these contollers, I have SATA drives in RAID. However, my Pioneer DVD-ROM stills rips like noboby's business so I would guess speed with XP drivers isn't an issue.
    Let us know.
