  1. Hi all,
Have a new DVD player that says it plays MPEG4 but only "simple profile".

I've been able to find very little info on what "simple profile" is and how to create/convert files to it. Anyone have any pointers/utitilies that could help?

I've tried just taking one of my divx/xvid files and burning to dvdr but they will not play. Without any info, I'm not sure where to go from here (besides just returning the DVD player).

    JVC XV-N312

    Thanks,
    Walter

I'm not quite sure of the differences, but do a google for MPEG4 Simple Profile and get all the info.....

    AN EXCERPT FROM DIVX:

DivX Pro 5.0 includes some of the most start-of-the-art video encoding techniques available today. Things like psychovisual modeling, bi-directional encoding (B-frames), global motion compensation, and quarter pel. DivX Pro is also fully MPEG-4 compliant, and is able to encode videos that are compatible with the MPEG-4 Simple Profile and MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile.

looks like one of the settings is for MPEG4 Simple Profile.

    Hope it helps

This was covered in part in another thread recently. I'm not sure of the exact perameters of what this JVC unit is capable of but it sounds like it was designed for the type of MPEG-4 movie that some digital cameras and cams are capable of.

Basically it is worthless. The image size is extremely small (less than VCD resolution) and the frame rate isn't even full blown spec (I think it is something like 15fps).

Really no point in fooling around with it if you ask me.
