I picked one up at a reasonable price...otherwise I would have gotten an ADVC-100.

So after reading all the posts about it I have a few questions that maybe someone can answer.

I only have one purpose for this product.

To convert old VHS TV recordings that I made into DVD. Having tried to just cap using my leadtek 2000xp dlx, I know these tapes go out of sync. They are old and recorded at the EP setting. But they are viewable and still play well from the VHS player to the TV. I have tried to follow the sync instructions, but have not been successful with these tapes.

From what I've read - if I want to save time - I will cap using the high quality setting. But then I'm limited to 1 hour and 47 minutes of material.

I really want to put four hours on a DVD, but I've read that ConvertX takes a long time to reencode, and it's cap/conversion process is proprietary. I think I've thought of a work around.

I'm stuck using the bundled WINDVD Creator 2. So I'm thinking that I could burn to a DVD-RW, and then burn the next hour and 47 minutes to another DVD-RW.

(I would pick a scene that faded out to end the first DVD if necessary.)

Since the DVD-RW's are now in a compliant format, wouldn't I then be able to use DVD Shrink and something like TMPGenc DVD Author to create a new menu and combine the two DVD's? Does this sound like it should work? Does anyone have any other way to save a lot of conversion time using this program?

I know I'll lose some quality, but I don't believe I'll end up with something much worse than what my source material looks like now.
