  1. Well, the subject pretty much says it all. It seems as though if you live in Europe there are plenty of DivX/MPEG4 players readily available, but they seem to be exceedingly hard to find in the US, and the ones that are available seem to be questionable (many people are complaining about Lite-On's lack of support, and others complain about the quality of the Polaroid player. The Kiss players seem a bit too expensive).

Am I looking in the wrong places? Will more models be available soon? Is this an evil plot by the MPAA?

    Any insight would be appreciated...

Forgeting hobbiests like us,most American consumers if they know what DIVX stands for think of the short lived Circuit City rental rip-off.
Profit on DVD players is low manufactures are cutting product lines or getting out of DVD player manufacturing.
DIVX as "new" tecchnology offers them the chance to make higher profit, results higher prices.
New model players are getting rare probably because of large unsold invertory. My local Sam's used to cary 6-7 models, now they cary 1 model.
