Use G-spot to analyze your avi and post the results for which 4cc is used.

  5. Its a divx file with mp3 audio. Check for bad frames using Vdub.

Before you do anything else you should still check the avi for bad frames as VCDHunter suggested. You still haven't ruled that out as being the problem unless you failed to mention it.

I realize the 4cc indicates that it's Divx video but I can't help but suspect it's really Xvid. I've never seen a Divx file that has a 23.976 frame rate and VBR audio. This is not to suggest that it's impossible to encode as such because it obviously is possible, but not at all common. I think it was encoded as Xvid and set up to utilize the DX50 4cc.

The most "TMPGEnc friendly" Xvid decoder is FFDSHOW. Try installing that and try encoding again with TMPGEnc. BUT, due to the fact that the avi has VBR audio you must decompress it to PCM wav. To do this just open the avi in Vdub, go to "audio" and select "full processing mode", go to file and select "save WAV" and wait for your wav file to be created. You will then use the wav file as your audio source in TMPGEnc.

  9. oh sorry, i already checked for bad frames but it said everything was good
i tried changing the audio into a wav then used TMPG to make a mpg so i could turn it into a vcd, but it would only show the beginning then the picture rather stops or goes away but the audio keeps going
if i move to another spot on the movie the picture shows up for that frame but doesnt move after, but the audio continues
i have no idea what to do, never happened to me before

As I suggested, try installing FFDSHOW and give TMPGEnc another go. The FFDSHOW decoder may allow TMPGEnc to read your movie more easily. No guarantees, but it's worth a shot.

Extract the audio to wav first using Virtualdub or Goldwave, use the wav as your audio source.

Unless you have FFDSHOW configured otherwise, yes. Also, it's not pollite to high-jack other people's threads.
