  1. Hello everybody,
Yesterday i bought a NEC ND2500A DVD writer. I also bought Precisa DVD-R x4 medias.
i arrived home and installed the drive(as primary slave) and started burning with Nero 6.3.1.6 ultra.
i was trying to burn less than 4.4 GB of mp3, at speed X4.
i set the nero to do speed measurement test, simulation, burn, and verify written data.
It completed the speed test, the simulation and the burn (successfully) and when it came to varify the data it said more than 100 files were unaccesible. i tried again at 2X(on a new media), and then there was 4 files unaccisible.
of course i tried to open them with winamp too, and failed to do that.
    i have P3 1000, pc partner MB, 256MB ram(sdr@133mhz), WD80GB(8MB-cache), g-force 4MX440 128 MB.
any help is welcome! thank you...

    1. It is recommended to connect your writer to secondary master.

    2. Strange media choice! Get some real good media and try one more time the same procedure. (You can read on DVD Writers section about this NEC what is the users recommendation about media).

  3. 1. why? isn't it recommended that the writer will get the information straight from the HD (most of my burns are from the HD)?

    2. i bought it after a friend recommended me about them. it's hard to get good medias here(israel), you think MDA will be fine? what is your recommendation anyway?

i saved the log, here is part of it:

    1. Most of the producers of optical writing devices recommend to connect the writer as master on the first or second channel. Of course you know that the source drive and destination driver (resp. reader (HDD, CD-ROM, ...) and writer) must be at different chanels of the IDE controller. We can discuss a long time about this ...

    Example:
1st IDE: Master - System HDD; Slave - additional HDD
    2nd IDE: Master - DVD-RW drive; Slave - DVD-ROM drive

If you want to capture, edit, encode video it is good idea to have a different HDD for System, Capture and Edit. This means that you should need additional PCI-IDE controller.

And last thing - very good performance gives S-ATA. (Not suitable at this moment - needs to change MB, CPU, maybe SDRAM --> DDR)

    2. I live in Bulgaria and the problem with good media is well known. Do you have some special media stores in your living place? I've ordered some Ritek -R 4x media and Memorex +R 4x from USA. Very good quality! Maybe the best. But, for example, I have many disappointments with Ritek -RW 2x media. You should exepriment and find the best ones for your NEC.

  5. 1. ok, you convinced me
i will change it tommorow first thing n the morning

i already know the advantage of sata, i'll have it in my next upgrade(i'm planning to move to AMD (axp) system, DDR...)

2.that's the problem....i'm afraid that i will buy medias and it will cost hundreads of dollars, and it will be sucks!

I will wait for good news from you.

If you can order from USA - do it for Ritek + or -R. They have a good price, perfect compatibility and one of the best quality.

In Israel ... you can buy different kinds of media one by one and check the "Media Info" with DVDInfoPro. After that go to "DVD Media" on the left and read the comments. It should be useful to find any suitable media for you.

    What I'm afraid:

Media code/Manufacturer ID Yi Jhan 001

I didn't heard about such manufacturer yet!

    In general the rest things:
    1. you must look at writing strategy speed - this is the recommended stable burning speed.
    2. Available write descriptor - maximum writing speed for the media if drive supports it.

Below is INFO for RITEK -R 4x media. You can compare them.
Conclusion: good media code is RITEKG04, RICOHJPN01, MXLRG02 and TAIYOYUDEN... for 4x media.

    Here is Ritek Info:

There are several media with "yours" media code. All of them are with mixed reliability. Look here:

  10. so basicly what you're saying that the manufacturer sucks...right?
because except for the manufacturer(and the hexa numbers that doesn't tell me anything) i didn't notice any major differences.
    what about those:
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=MDA&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&type=6&s...+or+List+Media
looks ok? should i but those?
because those cost about 80 cents per unit.
BTW the ritek costs 2$ per unit.

MDA-s don't look much different. Manufacturer also unknown, and a few comments, which can't be criteria.

Ritek's cost 2$?! Good profit for the store! Means that 100% profit are not only in Bulgaria - you have them also!

Not the best but you can try with PRINCO 1x-4x media. We have them in Bulgaria on 1.2$. Did you seen them anywhere?

  12. princo cost more than the ritek...
    what about those:
    VDSPMSAB DVD-R 4.7GB X4 (unbranded)
    ?
i have also one called "insixt" but i don't have any (english) link....
all the rest costs more than 2$...
BTW the precisa costs 2.5$ (!!!!)
i'm going to switch the connection now so the DVDRW will be secondary master
